Reddit could be the next target for federal investigators exploring Russian influence over the 2016 presidential election.
A representative from Sen. Mark Warner 's office told The Hill that Warner, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, is interested in Reddit as a potential tool of Russian social media influence.
Experts say any full investigation into potential foreign social media influence over elections is unlikely to stop at social media giants like Facebook, Twitter and Reddit.
Bradshaw pointed to several examples of hoax political stories disseminated on Reddit ahead of the election, including Pizzagate and allegations of illegal electioneering.
Investigating Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit seems like a colossal waste of time and money. Disseminating "fake" stories/news is not a crime. If it were, every single person who uses the internet would be guilty.
The Russia investigation is providing nothing (because there's nothing there) so this just seems like a ploy to keep Russia in the news.
Going by how everything has gone for the past year ..... I predict Hillary will go to prison for colluding with Russia .... and then Trump's people get locked up for their emails.
So like when Breitbart posts something that isn't true, usually reposting some kind of Russian proppaganda, that's an issue? Or does it not count as a reputable source?
I don't want to get too hard into serious posting here but you should look at some of the stuff Clint Watts said to the Ssnate Intelligence committee. Basically argued that Russia was actively funneling fake news to more of the grey conspiracy sites like Breitbart.
A potential nation state level interference is not worthy of investigation.
Unless you can prove that they changed vote totals then it's not really interference.
Posting articles/comments on Reddit/Facebook/Twitter certainly isn't interference.
We've reached a point where the democrats are having to redefine the definition of interference in order to be able to still claim "interference."
They'd be better served by just admitting defeat and focusing on actually winning in 2020 but they are too stupid to do that and too dumb to realize that the longer this investigation goes on the more it helps President Trump.
I dunno, I actually like knowing what's going on in the world. Who cares if an investigation makes die hard Trump supporters dig in their heels and put on their blinders. I'm interested in seeing where all this leads.
So you're interested in a lot of wasted time and taxpayer money for a committee to come to the conclusion that maybe Russia posted some stories on social media?
Let's say Russia did post a bunch of stuff on social media. So what? That's not illegal and it's certainly not election interference. It's just another excuse that Democrats can use instead of owning up to the fact that a) they ran a shit candidate and b) America rejected the democratic platform.
I don't think gaining information is a waste of time and I am interested in the dynamics of how false information was spread through social media. I think you guys are making a mistake to have a cow about this. I know that right now what comes out might make your "side" look bad. But, in the future, it may be in your side's interest that people be able to discern true fake news from the NYTimes and you will have to lie in the bed you're trying to make. It will be yet another chuckle I will get out of Trump's presidency.
I don't think gaining information is a waste of time and I am interested in the dynamics of how false information was spread through social media.
That can be done without a congressional committee and a ton of taxpayer funds
I know that right now what comes out might make your "side" look bad.
I'm not a Democrat or a Russian so this isn't going to make my "side" look bad.
Seriously, the longer "Russia REEEEEEEEEEEEE!" goes on the worse democrats pushing that narrative look. At this point it's "well, we didn't find anything here so we're going to blame the Russians for something else and hope that sticks." Repeated over and over again as the stuff Russia did becomes less and less relevant.
discern true fake news from the NYTimes
95% of the time this is one and the same. There's no difference.
That can be done without a congressional committee and a ton of taxpayer funds
For the third time, this is a perfectly fine use of congressional time as far as I'm concerned. If you want to chimp out about it that's on you. I look forward to the findings.

So you're interested in a lot of wasted time and taxpayer money for a committee to come to the conclusion that maybe Russia posted some stories on social media?
People on both the right and left were fine with Benghazi...
The witch hunt of Benchazi was all political theatre and a major waste of money because they were trying to score political points, that's what I meant. I thought that was obvious. You really think I mean the actual loss of American lives? You can't be that stupid, can you?
There is literally zero evidence of it occurring though. There have been no weird interactions with campaign members. There have been no instances of propaganda traced back to Russia. There is zero belief in the intelligence community that this is happening.
beyond that, america has been fucking around in foreign regimes for decades, and democrats have been perfectly content to play along like good soldiers. but suddenly theres the slightest suggestion someone they dont like disrupted their grand coronation and theyre screaming about freedom and sovereignty. it's fucking pathetic.

The coming indictments of the campaign chair and national security advisor is not nothing, no matter how partisan you are.
1 botchlings 2017-09-27
Lol that you think indictments are coming.
1 ucstruct 2017-09-27
You're right, federal investigators do pre dawn raids and empanel grand juries for nothing.
1 botchlings 2017-09-27
You're making the assumptions that a) the raid was anything more than for show and b) any relevant information at all was gained from the raid.
As for the grand jury, see "a" above. Grand Juries look at cases on a daily basis without choosing to act on them.
Neither the raid or the grand jury indicates a coming indictment.
1 ucstruct 2017-09-27
Not federal ones, the have an indictment rate of 99.99%.

1 Hellkyte 2017-09-27
So you're saying that the whole "fake news" thing is a non-issue? Don't let daddy hear you say that.
1 botchlings 2017-09-27
The sort of "fake news" being talked about here - false stories from questionable, non-mainstream sources, isn't a problem.
Fake news as in "reputable," mainstream sources publishing biased, anonymously sourced, and/or factually untrue articles is a HUGE problem.
1 Hellkyte 2017-09-27
So like when Breitbart posts something that isn't true, usually reposting some kind of Russian proppaganda, that's an issue? Or does it not count as a reputable source?
1 botchlings 2017-09-27
I've never known Breitbart to purposely post false stories. Biased yes, but not False.
They are the Huffington Post of the right.

Really, just grow the fuck up. You're a senator, FFS.
1 JohnBlind 2017-09-27
Yeah they're looking into it solely to make excuses. A potential nation state level interference is not worthy of investigation.
