A few years ago, the Escapist got more or less taken over by an extremist right-winger, Alexander Macris, who saw GamerGate as an opportunity to turn the website into a right-wing beachhead in the culture war. He hired a bunch of other right-wing political activists (who had no understanding of or interest in games) to write columns aimed at pushing a pro-GG and anti-progressive agenda. It was actually pretty disgusting.
The Escapist being used as right-wing propaganda is definitely not true. Most of the people that worked there are leftists or left-of-centre.
I didn't read/watch much outside of ZP and Unskippable, but I distinctly remember some comics on TE being really heavy with SJW bullshit.
