Blue tooth is universal. Anyone with a cellphone could have connected.
This is the fault of the developers, which isn't surprising. IoT firmware is notoriously shitty. Not only should Bluetooth devices not start indiscriminately establishing connections with any surrounding devices upon loss of connection with the initial device, but there should be some kind of acknowledgement before a new device is given user privileges.
