Yeah, there's been stories about him acting like a dickhead floating around the internet and reddit for years not; it just took a little longer than it should have for public opinion to catch up.
There's also videos of him acting like a dickhead every time he goes on TV and gets challenged on a belief he has so.. wasn't hard to see if you looked.
to be fair, his degree is mechanical engineering from 1977, its like saying you're a computer expert because you know BASIC. Like yeah, you pretty much are on equally footing as everyone else
Your analogy doesn't work. You're not a computer expert even if you just knew Python. I'm fairly confident his education didn't just stagnant with 1977 knowledge.
It is pretty much certain that if you aren't actively engaged in continuing education and / or research, that your STEM degree is irrelevant after about 10 years. Computer Science is particularly prone to this phenomenon.
My favorite reply so far, when asked if he would sing the Bill Nye theme song forced fun:
Uh... I don't sing the song. Other people do. This is very traditional in tv and radio. Gilligan doesn't sing Gilligan's Island theme song, for example. On The Late Show or Saturday Night Live, a narrator introduces the host and the casts. Carry on.
Autistic Pride Day, an Aspies for Freedom initiative, is a celebration of the neurodiversity of people on the autism spectrum on 18 June each year. Autistic pride recognises the innate potential in all people, including those on the autism spectrum.
I don't think I made it past the second episode when I attempted to watch it. There was little science in it, just "THIS IS WHAT THE SCIENTISTS SAY, FUCK WHAT THOSE GUYS ARE SAYING" and a little 7th-grade labotatory experiment that very generally approaches the topic.
My science teacher in eighth grade was a super lousy biddy who had a voice like a duck. Sometimes she wouldn't want teach, so she put on Bill Nye. By sometimes, I mean at least once a week, so we didn't have to hear from duck lady.
I read a comment on reddit somewhere that theorized that he's the only exposure to science many children got in the highly religious parts of the US and that's why he's idolized.
I'm pretty sure I don't currently have a "mentor," as I understand that expression. I have a great many academic, scientific, entertainment, and engineering colleagues whose council and advice I seek routinely. It's just that I'm the grownup now, with the experience, leastways, I'm supposed to be. I have colleagues more than a mentor. Carry on.
The stories about Spacey were that he was sexually harassing every male he could get his hands on. The stories about Bill Nye were just that he's a total dick to everyone and is rude to kids. I'm gonna have to start taking those AskReddit threads about bad celebrities a lot more seriously now.
They took that small part of the show and attacked him for it.
No one else has ever made a show and been attacked so consistently after this. (For example, why aren't people going insane over fuller house?)
The right wing media has been consistently demonizing anyone that is trying to help spread the science about climate change because it is killing their profits.
This is crazy. He never claimed to be a scientist. He's a "science guy" and if you think a mechanical engineer that works on airplanes isn't science minded, you're not very smart.
He never got up and asked people to pray or sing hymns about science like it was gospel, that's ridiculous.
I can agree that they dropped the ball on that episode. I think they were trying to be controversial to get attention but it really did create too much of a backlash.
So what is hard to understand then? He dropped the ball...and also ruined his career, destroyed his reputation and now lots people want him to take a long walk off a short pier.
You caught me. When I say that he sucks now, his children's show in the '90s sucked, and he was the one person on Almost Live who sucked, that's just because the Koch brothers are paying me to. I work for them on the weekdays and earn my $oro$ bucks on weekends.
I mean being insufferable isn't the doing of big oil. If they caused more attention to be drawn to it, sure, but they aren't mixing hormones into his food to make him unpleasant.
Kids grew up with him. Schoolteachers would put on his show instead of teaching. Kids are easily impressionable. See movies and sports teams and music.
At first I thought the collective internet shit themselves because of his song about genders and thought - holy shit, on what level of the autism Rolf Blanco scale do you have to be to get angry about that?
Then as it turns out he's a condescending shit. That's unfortunate.
It's probably a combination of being shit on for studying, thinking you're better than others for studying, and getting tired of the world for being shitty and stupid.
Part of me doesn't blame Bill, the other part can't believe he has no tact.
Then again, look at someone like Tyson. Smart, but interviews with him are a complete roundabout mess of shit.
Sagan and Feynman were great, and nowhere near the level of condescendence of these two pricks.
Feynman could be an asshole sometimes, let's not excuse him for it, but the guy was a real genius, Nye and Tyson are kind of smart assholes in the showbiz, just it, not even at the level of super smart, and certainly nowhere near genius status.
I don't think most people give a shit who you want to sleep with, it's just the song itself is terrible and beyond cringeworthy. I agree with the message but that was about the worst delivery ever.
Eh, they were clearly friends with the vanilla ice cream. They only took issue with him when his sexual frustrations started giving him hallucinations and delusions about everyone being vanilla. Clearly he was repressing urges, just like most religious people irl.
He's refusing to answer any questions about his show or himself. He's only answering on topics like science, education, and politics. Too bad he doesn't know much about any of that.
He can come to drama all he wants. I'm glad someone saved us the embarrassment of having drama's resident try-sooper-hard-cellar-dweller shit all over one of the best threads we've had in a while. You follow him around enough, you know he's no "random shitposter", you've seen his epic spergouts enough to know he's a failure.
Regarding nuclear power, the biggest problem the industry has is that no one wants a nuclear plant around-- in their neighborhood.
What a retard. For someone who wants everyone to become an atheist and adhere to identity politics, he's remarkably certain that there's no way we can get around the problem of living in close proximity to a power plant. I lived near a nuclear power plant as a kid and other than the ocasional evacuation drill, it didnt affect my life whatsoever. Nuclear power is literally the best power source we have access to, there's no way around that.
That was one of his only good points really. My dad was around the three mile island incident and it leaves a mark. The danger of radiation is pretty terrifying
That's fair enough, but nuclear is definitely worth it in the long run, especially since we can't reach 100% clean energy very fast without it. Take into account that nuclear power plants will probably become safer than they already are, and we don't have any better options.
Yeah we know that but nobody wants to have a plant around their neighborhood. Would you feel safe knowing there's a possibility the plant could fail/leak/meltdown? That's the whole problem really
Yeah totally. The chance is really small. Do you feel safe driving/flying/walking/existing knowing there's a chance you could suddenly die? People are only super afraid of radiation because they're told it's super scary and evil.
The fact that you have heard of these events reflects more on the media's obsession with nuclear power than its actual dangers. No one actually died from the Fukashima meltdown.
Have you heard of the Banqiao Dam disaster? 171,000 people died, 11 million more displaced. I'm guessing you aren't in favor of banning hydroelectric power though?
Having one of these plants near you is adding more risk to you and your family, that's why people don't want them.
People that cycle to work have exponentially higher risk than someone who lives near a nuclear power plant. It's like avoiding the beach because you're worried about shark attacks.
There's a super low risk of dying in a mass shooting so by your logic you shouldn't be worried about it.
Those incidents only seem bad when you completely disregard every other disaster and accident associated with all other types of power plants. Nuclear is still safe.
There are already plants built and perfectly functioning that the government is busy cutting funding to and shutting down. Fine.. don't build any more if the people won't have it.. but don't shut down ones that run perfectly fine.
Nuclear power is safer than any other form of power in terms of deaths/MW. I think the fear is related to the fact that you can't see radiation. You see a fire, you see black smoke when coal is burned because those are in a sense tangible we don't worry so much about them as we can avoid them easily. The problem is that most people have a piss-poor understanding of basic science and statistics.
Nuclear power is a natural energy source. All energy sources have billion (or trillion) dollar externalities associated with them. If you want to maintain the Earth's current population and maintain standard of living, never mind increase it, while weaning us off a dependency on oil we have to get serious about increasing the power we get from nuclear sources.
Renewable energy is energy that is collected from renewable resources, which are naturally replenished on a human timescale, such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat. Renewable energy often provides energy in four important areas: electricity generation, air and water heating/cooling, transportation, and rural (off-grid) energy services.
Based on REN21's 2016 report, renewables contributed 19.2% to humans' global energy consumption and 23.7% to their generation of electricity in 2014 and 2015, respectively. This energy consumption is divided as 8.9% coming from traditional biomass, 4.2% as heat energy (modern biomass, geothermal and solar heat), 3.9% hydro electricity and 2.2% is electricity from wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass.
That's an article on what is considered "renewable" energy. There's nothing here that suggests nuclear energy is unnatural, because that would be completely fucking retarded.
In the future if you are going to tell people off perhaps be on better footing. Natural energy is not a term used by any scientist because it is nonsensical. You are correct that uranium is non-renewable but based on current consumption it will last a very, very long time.
I can understand that, many people are afraid of nuclear power. The issue I have with Bills answer is that many people complain about wind turbines and he is no problem forcing that on people.
Nah, this is one he's actually right on. There's a huge fear mongering bullshit around nuclear plants because of how bad the disasters can be, despite their extreme rarity.
It's not just about disasters, it's also about the nuclear "trash". There have been so many fuckups with that in Germany here for example, so that's absolutely not fearmongering, it's just a reality.
The rest of the world isn't full of fuckups like Germany is tho.
My state had a perfectly good plant for 16 years that provided 12% of the electricity of the state until the hippies who think vaccines cause autism made us get rid of it.
The rest of the world isn't full of dumbfucks who just throw it in a mine full of running water like Germany rofl we have a Nuclear Waste Policy Act that we buried the stuff in the fucking desert inside of a vault built for it until Obama defunded it.
Now we use dry cask storage ( Dry is the important part for you Germans) until they get approval to start deepboring again.
I'd argue that China and Czechoslovakia have fucked up worse than we have concerning nuclear energy. :P
Well fact is Europe simply doesn't have that much space for nuclear waste. We don't just have deserts the size of countries here. Neither do most countries. France also had some very nice things happening with nuclear waste and its disposal.
I think in just about any other regard you guys fuck up way more than we do, though.
Well if you are comparing Germany to Commieland and even more generic Poland you're really just making my point right?
much space for nuclear waste. We don't just have deserts the size of countries here. Neither do most countries
Pay us to take care of it for you, after all saving the world from Global Warming is super important and money doesn't matter when it comes to saving the world right?
I think in just about any other regard you guys fuck up way more than we do, though.
How is your Green Energy development going? Besides your government lying about car emissions you've got a German Tesla company right?
Yea, Japan with their meltdowns where not a single person is killed in the middle of a Tsunami that is still to this day washing up parts of their country on my beach.
Those powerplants are sure dangerous.
Like you guys aren't fucking lying about car emissions as well
I don't understand how a guy like this is so convinced of the value of changing people's minds on something as trivial as gender but completely gives up when it's something that actually matters. All of his rhetoric about respecting science is really just about respecting what emotionally resonates with him, and he came up in a time when environmentalists spent much of their time bashing nuclear energy. No scientific evidence will change his negative emotional reaction to nuclear energy.
The Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant (ç§Šć±±æ žç”ç«) is a multi-unit nuclear power plant under construction in Qinshan Town, Haiyan County, Zhejiang, the People's Republic of China.
I think he agrees with you. He said the biggest problem is that no one wants it.
People are not properly educated about it and thus are apprehensive about allowing it in their areas. I'm not sure how you've extracted so much from that quote.
Probably because Bill Nye himself contributes to the poor education and apprehension surrounding the topic? So to cite the fact that no one wants it as being the biggest problem, while contributing to and exacerbating that problem, is simply put: retarded.
I think the underlying intentions, educating the masses and getting people interested in science is a good thing for sure. I just can't stand Nye specifically because he allows his politics and bias to get in the way of making an objective argument, yet he acts like his science is 100% objective. I think that's a lot of people's problem with him when it gets down to it.
Perhaps, though I am wondering what would have been the response if he used "science" to explain differences between male and female or something like that. Not that I would call anyone a hypocrite, but the motivations for the response seem fairly clear. As far as I know it was one episode of that show that set people off, and not really the nuclear energy stuff.
However, that being said, I'm not one for celebrity worship and Bill Nye strikes me as someone who readily feeds into it. I wouldn't blame him for that, but I think his particular motivations extend beyond just educating the masses. He's feeding into a nostalgia entranced crowd of young adults and bathing in the adoration.
Wow even normies hated it? But they must realise if you want to promote homosexuality this is the next step. So kind of hypocritical to just get triggered over one thing but not something similar.
God itâs gonna be quite humorous when all the incels here get banned from spamming downvotes with russobots. Shit-fedora laced reply to this incoming.
I asked a question, and he responded with a half-assed answer that was heavily downvoted. Luckily, another Redditor helpfully provided a more comprehensive answer.
Also, his response to "how would you improve critical thinking in classrooms" was to have kids write a report on a fictional animal (the tree octopus). Sounds very douchebaggy.
u/Thatguywhosme's response is much easier to understand than Bill Nye's. At least after reading that proper response I know it is something way out of my league and it is much more complicated and cooler than I thought.
u/sundialbill's is just a mash of words that is basically saying nothing.
As I've said elsewhere, I love conversations about "critical thinking". Because it's a vague term that basically means "people being smart like me, not smart like people who are successful in school or life or anything, smart like a loser like me". It's like the bastard offspring of philosophy, postmodernism, and business comunications but even wankier and vaguer.
Given how few people ever remotely agree on any real definition of "critical thinking" you'd think that "critical thinking" advocates would spend a bit of time explaining what they mean before opening their mouths, assuming they're capable of critical thinking.
Critical thinking roughly means the ability to find novel solutions to problems. Writing the recipe instead of following it. And it's especially important going forward because everything that can be done by rote will be automated in the near future. Critical thinking is something computers are not good at.
No one hates proles more than those who claim to stand for them and claim to derive their authority from them. Champaign socialists are such a strange ball of contradictions.
Graduated from an Ivy League School in one of the most demanding business programmes in the country, multibillionaire, got bored, decided to run for President, actually won.
Yeah, you can disagree with his policies all you want, but denying that he is highly intelligent and capable is just delusional.
They aren't just unedcuated, they're straight up stupid people.
That's what I think about liberals. :) So throwing around words like that is kinda useless, as it goes both ways.
pizzagate was a real.
This is where you also misunderstand. Pizzagate, as in they use the pizza place to meet up and fuck kids, is a joke, a 4chan meme. Obviously some people took it too far, but don't act like your side doesn't do that as well. The concept of pizzagate is real tho. Think about it: many people want to fuck kids. Rich and influential people can get away with it, so they do it. Very logical.
this only really applies to older ones, not younger ones.
How does that saying go again? If you're not a liberal at 20 you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at 40 you have no brain. Young people are usually brainwashed and haven't had a chance to think and experience the world for themselves. Give them time. They'll come around. Which is why voting age should be 25 btw. You're out of college, on your own and have experienced the real world by then. For the record: I am 22 and I am right wing as fuck on most issues :)
Graduated from an Ivy League School in one of the most demanding business programmes in the country, multibillionaire, got bored, decided to run for President, actually won.
That's great. I have him on video failing to do basic math and I have him going on infowars, I have him very clearly exposing the fact he's economically illiterate.
Trump winning uneducated voters does not mean Trump is educated.
There's a single quote that says everything that needs to be said about his intelligence level:
So Iâll call, like, majorâmajor countries, and Iâll be dealing with the prime minister or the president. And Iâll say, how are you doing? Oh, donât know, donât know, not well, Mr. President, not well. I said, well, whatâs the problem? Oh, GDP 9 percent, not well. And Iâm saying to myself, here we are at like 1 percent, dying, and theyâre at 9 percent and theyâre unhappy. So, you know, and these are like countries, you know, fairly large, like 300 million people. You know, a lot of people sayâthey say, well, but the United States is large. And then you call places like Malaysia, Indonesia, and you say, you know, how many people do you have? And itâs pretty amazing how many people they have. So Chinaâs going to be at 7 or 8 percent, and they have a billion-five, right? So we should do really well.
Right here, does this seem like someone that is actually ivy league intelligent?
That's what I think about liberals. :) So throwing around words like that is kinda useless, as it goes both ways.
That's great. Liberals didn't elect a rabid infowars conspiratard that speaks at a 3rd grade level, that was you.
No, the concept of pizzagate is not real. And here we see why you just aren't a very smart people. Saying "rich people can get away with X so that means my garbage conspiracy theory is somehow based in reality" is hilarious.
Let me throw your own logic back at you. Serial killers exist, and most of them aren't caught. I'm not formally accusing you of being a serial killer.
My evidence? Serial killers exist.
Yes, if you aren't a retard by the age of 40 you have no brain!
Right here, does this seem like someone that is actually ivy league intelligent?
Yes. What about this is wrong? The ball park of the GDP numbers is correct. Also, he is known for hyperbole. It's part of his game. :)
him going on infowars
hahah that was fucking hilarious. Alex Jones himself is fucking hilarious imo. Of course, you don't have to look at him as a news source, but rather as entertainment. And he's a gateway into our world for normies through his meme potential. You know, it's all a joke until it isn't. Trump going on Alex Jones was a very smart move btw.
he's economically illiterate.
Built a multibillion dollar, world spanning company with an elaborate structure -> he's economically illiterate. Your delusions are coming through again. SAD.
speaks at a 3rd grade level
people have different speech patterns for different situations. Trump won the election because of how he behaved, not in spite of it.
the concept of pizzagate is not real.
Of course it is. You have to be really stupid not to understand it. I mean, is the concept of Hollywood being a sexual abuse factory real? Do you really think that the Weinsteins of this world only fuck adults? hahahah
Yes. What about this is wrong? The ball park of the GDP numbers is correct. Also, he is known for hyperbole. It's part of his game. :)
Holy shit, now you've displayed YOU don't understand GDP. The problem isn't the numbers, it's the fact he doesn't comprehend why a developing country would have significantly higher GDP growth than a wealthy, developed country.
Let's say you make 100 thousand dollars a year and your co-worker makes 25 thousand dollars a year.
Your co-worker gets a 10% raise, and you get a 10% raise. Who gained more? If you want a more detailed explanation for why he's a retard, here you go:
hahah that was fucking hilarious. Alex Jones himself is fucking hilarious imo. Of course, you don't have to look at him as a news source, but rather as entertainment. Even though he has had his moments since Trump gained momentum, with insiders like Roger Stone and all that. Alex is a gateway into our world for normies through his meme potential. You know, it's all a joke until it isn't. Trump going on Alex Jones was a very smart move btw.
Yeah, this meme where you try to claim every retarded thing Trump does is a "joke" doesn't fly outside of your echochambers.
Trump straight up believes the shit he says, because he is a conspiratard.
It was evident during the birther fiasco, and it's even more evident with the fact Trump is an anti-vaxxer.
Built a multibillion dollar, world spanning company with an elaborate structure -> he's economically illiterate. Your delusions are coming through again. SAD.
Yes, my delusions, clearly it isn't that you have no clue that being rich does not = understanding economics, it's that I'm delusional.
people have different speech patterns for different situations. Trump won the election because of how he behaved, not in spite of it.
Yes, because he's a dumb person that appeals to other dumb people.
Of course it is. You have to be really stupid not to understand it. I mean, is the concept of Hollywood being a sexual abuse factory real? Do you really think that the Weinsteins of this world only fuck adults? hahahah Get a grip, man!
To be clear here, you believe a conspiracy that says Hillary Clinton is running a Satanic pedo cult out of the basement of a pizza shop is based in reality?
The tolerant left at it again, kek.
No, conservatives aren't retarded. American right-wingers are retarded, American right-wingers are not conservatives, they're just far-right morons.
Yeah, I will link to infowars for proving my next point.
You don't understand that thw growth of the US economy under Obama's administration has been slow and not up to its full potential. We're now at over 3% for the last few quarters thanks to Trump.
He's not making a complicated point here. He's just comparing the numbers and wants us to do better. That's it.
Trump straight up believes the shit he says.
For the most part, I think and hope you're right. But do you really think that he's religious (he's not)? Or that he's against abortion (he doesn't give a shit, most likely. I don't mean he's pro-choice. I mean that he truly doesn't care). He is just going with the GOP on these issues for the GOP to go with him on his core issues.
birther fiasco
First, it helped him get name recognition among certain republicans and, by extension, it helped him with the presidency. If it works, it ain't stupid. Second, and I am just assuming here, you're most likely a believer in MUH RUSSIA conspiracy theory. Don't make fun of "birthers", if that is the case.
actual economists
As the people who said that we'd never have 3% economy growth and that Trump's goals were unrealistic? Kek. You believe in fake news too much. Your experts are worthless. They've been wrong on everything time and time again.
Yes, because he's a dumb person that appeals to other dumb people.
No, because he's a smart person who knows his base and how to win. You know, unlike some Democrats.
you believe a conspiracy that says Hillary Clinton is running a Satanic pedo cult out of the basement of a pizza shop is based in reality?
As I wrote, the concept of rich people having protective rings that allow them to live out their (illegal) sexual fantasies is a real thing.
The satanic thing is a meme. The pizza shop thing is a 4chan meme.
American right-wingers are not conservatives, they're just far-right morons.
American left-wingers are not Democrats, they're just far-left morons.
See, I can play this game too.
Jokes aside, Trump is what conservatism is now. What you see as conservatism are RINOs and traitors like (Snow)Flake, McCaine, Liddle Bob and so on. These people need to be removed to MAGA. You like these people because they say what you agree with. Agreeing with (snow)Flake doesn't make you tolerant of different opinions. It just shows your intolerance and hypocrisy
Yeah, I will link to infowars for proving my next point.
Yes, because clearly slate is even in the same solar system as info wars. Holy shit, you're a complete mongoloid.
You don't understand that thw growth of the US economy under Obama's administration has been slow and not up to its full potential. We're now at over 3% for the last few quarters thanks to Trump.
LOL?
A) That's not the problem with Trump's economic illiteracy, notice how you didn't answer my question?
B) What in the actual fuck are you talking about? Point out a single policy Trump has passed that would somehow improve GDP growth.
C) You just exposed you don't know the difference between annual GDP growth and quarterly GDP growth.
As the people who said that we'd never have 3% economy growth and that Trump's goals were unrealistic? Kek. You believe in fake news too much. Your experts are worthless. They've been wrong on everything time and time again.
LMAO. Your economic illiteracy is not on them, you've confused 2 different types of growth:
But the comparison that he made is somewhat misleading. President Trump compared annual GDP growth in the Obama era to quarterly GDP growth in a three month period. And quarterly GDP often isnât a good indicator for how much an economy will produce over the year, with quarterly GDP growth often differing significantly from the yearâs overall GDP growth.
Take the Obama era for example. Between 2009 and 2016, GDP growth reached at or above 3% on a quarterly basis about eight times.
I'm done with you. You literally aren't intelligent enough to defend yourself and I feel bad.
Yes, slate is leftist propaganda. Same thing with Hiffington post, Vox, ShareBlue and all the other propaganda outlets. Like Infowars is right wing propaganda. The difference is that Infowars can also take a joke and thus can be viewed for entertainment purposes. Holy shit you're a complete mongloid. :)
A) Notice how I answered your question. Trump knows his base. He makes a really simple arguments and compares the numbers. The stuff you interpret in there is not part of anything here, kek.
B) deregulation. Google and educate yourself further. The optimism about upcoming tax cuts doesn't harm either. :)
C) you just exposed that you don't understand that quarterly growth is part of the annual growth, kek. The economic growth under Trump is reaching levels like we haven't seen under any of the two pathetic previous administrations. The articles you linked are of course misleading and fake news. Trump just said that Obama never reached 3% annual growth. Trump is on track of doing so tho. :)
I am not done with you. I would like to help you educate yourself and recognize fake news! I feel bad for you, but at the same time hopeful that you will see the light some day!
âWe just announced that we hit 3% in GDP, it just came out,â the president said.âOn a yearly basis, as you know, the last administration, during an eight year period, never hit 3%. So weâre really on our way. If we achieve sustained 3% growth, that means 12 million new jobs and $10 trillion of new economic activity over the next decade. Thatâs some numbers.â
I already informed you that this was misleading fake news. What the President said is true
No, it's not true. He tried to claim GDP growth never hit 3% under Obama, while talking about quarterly growth. This is outright false, it's irrefutably a false statement.
Your own article confirms what mine said:
Gross domestic product (GDP), the total value of goods and services produced in the U.S., never rose 3 percent annually under Obama, although there were eight separate quarters where GDP grew by more than 3 percent.
The context in which Trump said this in is very clearly quarterly:
âWe just announced that we hit 3% in GDP, it just came out,â the president said.âOn a yearly basis, as you know, the last administration, during an eight year period, never hit 3%. So weâre really on our way. If we achieve sustained 3% growth, that means 12 million new jobs and $10 trillion of new economic activity over the next decade. Thatâs some numbers.â
1
Annual growth includes quarterly growth. So if we hit multiple consequitive quarters with 3+%, we're doing much better under Trump.
Trump has not done anything. He has not passed a single bill, he has literally done nothing. You are outright a retarded person if you think literally anything happening with the economy in this country is because of Donald Trump.
And one more time - we're projected to hit about 2.4% annual growth as of right now, and by the way, Trump promised 4%, not 3%.
Unfortunately you are again wrong in all counts. SAD.
The President's statement is correct. This is irrefutable, as a linked article showed. We never hit so many consecutive quarters of growth under Obama and we're doing a lot better under Trump. As the CNBC article shows, Trump outperformed forecasts recently. He will most likely outperform the current ones as well. :) He has spoken about 3-4% growth, which he is on track of hitting. Give credit where credit is due, as the CNBC article said. :)
Trump has done a ton. Deregulation is a big thing. Also upcoming tax cuts.
Trump has done a ton. Deregulation is a big thing. Also upcoming tax cuts.
No, he has not dude. He has done nothing, period. And one more time: people that thing presidents have some control of the economy are just absurdly stupid:
The President's statements are correct. Your pathetic attempts at misrepresenting them are not working. SAD.
You realize that your link is fake news, right? The economy is doing better than under any of the previous two failed administrations. No signs of winding down.
Trump has done a lot. This is an undeniable fact and the numbers speak for themselves.
You realize that your link is fake news, right? The economy is doing better than under any of the previous two failed administrations. No signs of winding down.
Wait, wait, wait, wait. How in the ever loving fuck is that link fake news? It's literally just quarterly growth charts, there's nothing fake about it, the same exact numbers can be found everywhere.
Is this your spin to avoid admitting you were proven wrong on this claim:
We never hit so many consecutive quarters of growth under Obama and we're doing a lot better under Trump.
1
Trump has done a lot. This is an undeniable fact and the numbers speak for themselves.
How's it feel to be in a literal personality cult, to the point where you have to just straight up deny reality to protect the illusion you've created?
How does it feel to be in a literal traitorous club to the point where you have to straight up deny reality to protect your liberal delusions? The fake news have really done a number on you. You can't even recognize simple facts. SAD.
We're doing what we can to red pill as many of you as we can. Don't worry.
I mean, when someone has at most a 5th grade education and just calls every fact that proves them wrong "fake news" there isn't really anything that can be done to help them.
I hope you get the help you need one day, learning disabilities can be hard.
Both the dumbest (Hawaii, Nevada) and the smartest (Massachusetts, Minnesota) states are currently Democrat. The middle range is a mixture of red and blue. With a larger cluster of red at the lower end (Alabama, Mississippi, Florida) just before the dead last two blue ones.
The current GOP states of Wisconsin and Kansas are 5th and 6th respectively.
As you can see, the correlation is pretty weak. Unlike another metric of measurement one might be inclined to use, which has only one real outlier (Maryland).
Bro, this mental gymnastics you're trying to go through to avoid admitting the fact the GOP is hilariously uneducated compared to the democratic party isn't fooling anyone.
A better way to look at IQ would be to do it by county. There's a reason Trump did so well with the least educated counties in the country.
I love conversations about "critical thinking". Because it's a vague term that basically means "people being smart like me, not smart like people who are successful in school or life or anything". It's like philosophy but even wankier and vaguer.
If you want to feel good about yourself, just look at idiots serious-posting about critical thinking. It makes even feminists look like they have critical thinking skills (whatever the fuck those are).
Uh.... I don't have one favorite. Stargate was cool. So was Amy Schumer. I just shot a scene with the Muppets for an upcoming Sesame Street. I got the crew to laugh (not easy). I love playing Professor Rubicon on Miles From Tomorrow Land. Turn them all up loud!
Hahaha it's like he's doing his best to piss off every Redditor now.

I love how one episode of a tv show changed him from nerd hero to disgrace so easily.
1 ffbtaw 2017-11-08
It was primed to happen with all the stories of him being a condescending douche, I was just happy to be able to witness it.
1 snallygaster 2017-11-08
Yeah, there's been stories about him acting like a dickhead floating around the internet and reddit for years not; it just took a little longer than it should have for public opinion to catch up.
1 MooseHeckler 2017-11-08
Someone in an askreddit thread mentioned at their bar he is called Bill Nye the asshole guy.
1 snallygaster 2017-11-08
Aw man, do you have a link? Shitty celeb stories are my guilty pleasure
1 MooseHeckler 2017-11-08
I will try but, this was years ago and made sense. The name was just too creative to be fake.
1 BannaHamHock 2017-11-08
There's also videos of him acting like a dickhead every time he goes on TV and gets challenged on a belief he has so.. wasn't hard to see if you looked.

I hope he gets Weinsteined.

He gets caught raping a corpse?
1 IAintThatGuy 2017-11-08
I was thinking of the former, but I have to admit the former sounds awesome. So both.

I would be too if every internet douche bag felt a google search somehow put him in equal footing as me intellectually.
1 SWIMsfriend 2017-11-08
to be fair, his degree is mechanical engineering from 1977, its like saying you're a computer expert because you know BASIC. Like yeah, you pretty much are on equally footing as everyone else
1 Mabans 2017-11-08
Your analogy doesn't work. You're not a computer expert even if you just knew Python. I'm fairly confident his education didn't just stagnant with 1977 knowledge.
1 SWIMsfriend 2017-11-08
give me a better anology then
1 Redactor0 2017-11-08
So it started stagnating in the 1980s when he became a comedian.

It is pretty much certain that if you aren't actively engaged in continuing education and / or research, that your STEM degree is irrelevant after about 10 years. Computer Science is particularly prone to this phenomenon.

Autistic Pride Day
Autistic Pride Day, an Aspies for Freedom initiative, is a celebration of the neurodiversity of people on the autism spectrum on 18 June each year.

And then I saw sex junk on reddit.

I never got the obsession with Bill Nye. I never found him as entertaining as everyone made him out to be.
1 Ennui2778 2017-11-08
My science teacher in eighth grade was a super lousy biddy who had a voice like a duck. Sometimes she wouldn't want teach, so she put on Bill Nye. By sometimes, I mean at least once a week, so we didn't have to hear from duck lady.
1 zergling_Lester 2017-11-08
What if she was a vampire? Vampires have duck voices that don't produce reflections. So your science teacher was a vampire, probably.
1 Ennui2778 2017-11-08
Well, she sure did suck.
1 snallygaster 2017-11-08
It's probably just part of the whole 90's nostalgia thing.

Bill Nye was being attacked before the show came out. http://video.foxnews.com/v/5340303824001/?#sp=show-clips
They took that small part of the show and attacked him for it.
No one else has ever made a show and been attacked so consistently after this. (For example, why aren't people going insane over fuller house?)
The right wing media has been consistently demonizing anyone that is trying to help spread the science about climate change because it is killing their profits.

1 fucknazimodz 2017-11-08
That was one of his only good points really. My dad was around the three mile island incident and it leaves a mark. The danger of radiation is pretty terrifying
1 i_eat_crayons1 2017-11-08
That's fair enough, but nuclear is definitely worth it in the long run, especially since we can't reach 100% clean energy very fast without it. Take into account that nuclear power plants will probably become safer than they already are, and we don't have any better options.
1 fucknazimodz 2017-11-08
Yeah we know that but nobody wants to have a plant around their neighborhood. Would you feel safe knowing there's a possibility the plant could fail/leak/meltdown? That's the whole problem really
1 LightUmbra 2017-11-08
Yeah totally. The chance is really small. Do you feel safe driving/flying/walking/existing knowing there's a chance you could suddenly die? People are only super afraid of radiation because they're told it's super scary and evil.
1 fucknazimodz 2017-11-08
No, people are afraid of it because of incidents like Chernobyl, Fukushima, three mile island, and the WIPP tragedy.
Having one of these plants near you is adding more risk to you and your family, that's why people don't want them.
There's a super low risk of dying in a mass shooting so by your logic you shouldn't be worried about it.
1 ffbtaw 2017-11-08
The fact that you have heard of these events reflects more on the media's obsession with nuclear power than its actual dangers. No one actually died from the Fukashima meltdown.
Have you heard of the Banqiao Dam disaster? 171,000 people died, 11 million more displaced. I'm guessing you aren't in favor of banning hydroelectric power though?
1 DancingPetDoggies 2017-11-08
I just looked up the Banqiao Dam disaster on Wikipedia and TIL it's "Wikipedia Asian Month". This mind virus is spreading everywhere.

Banqiao Dam
The Banqiao Reservoir Dam (simplified Chinese: æżæĄ„æ°Žćș性ć; traditional Chinese: æżæ©æ°Žćș«ć€§ćŁ©; pinyin: BÇnqiĂĄo ShuÇkĂč DĂ bĂ ) is a dam on the River Ru in Zhumadian City, Henan province, China. Its failure in 1975 caused more casualties than any other dam failure in history at an estimated 171,000 deaths and 11 million displaced. The dam was subsequently rebuilt.
The Banqiao dam and Shimantan Reservoir Dam (simplified Chinese: çłæŒ«æ»©æ°Žćș性ć; traditional Chinese: çłæŒ«çæ°Žćș«ć€§ćŁ©; pinyin: ShĂmĂ ntÄn ShuÇkĂč DĂ bĂ ) are among 62 dams in Zhumadian that failed catastrophically or were intentionally destroyed in 1975 during Typhoon Nina.

1 LightUmbra 2017-11-08
People that cycle to work have exponentially higher risk than someone who lives near a nuclear power plant. It's like avoiding the beach because you're worried about shark attacks.
Correct.
1 Charles_Thunderpenis 2017-11-08
Those incidents only seem bad when you completely disregard every other disaster and accident associated with all other types of power plants. Nuclear is still safe.
1 BannaHamHock 2017-11-08
There are already plants built and perfectly functioning that the government is busy cutting funding to and shutting down. Fine.. don't build any more if the people won't have it.. but don't shut down ones that run perfectly fine.
1 ffbtaw 2017-11-08
Nuclear power is safer than any other form of power in terms of deaths/MW. I think the fear is related to the fact that you can't see radiation. You see a fire, you see black smoke when coal is burned because those are in a sense tangible we don't worry so much about them as we can avoid them easily. The problem is that most people have a piss-poor understanding of basic science and statistics.
1 fucknazimodz 2017-11-08
Nuclear power seems like a good solution but it's really not.
When you consider the safety risks vs. natural energy sources it just doesn't compare.
Plus we have to spend billions burying and guarding the nuclear waste
1 ffbtaw 2017-11-08
Nuclear power is a natural energy source. All energy sources have billion (or trillion) dollar externalities associated with them. If you want to maintain the Earth's current population and maintain standard of living, never mind increase it, while weaning us off a dependency on oil we have to get serious about increasing the power we get from nuclear sources.
1 fucknazimodz 2017-11-08
Nuclear energy is NOT a natural energy source. I don't know where you heard that.
1 Clopernicus 2017-11-08
...is it a supernatural source of energy?
1 fucknazimodz 2017-11-08
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renewable_energy
Nuclear energy is not a natural resource. You've been misinformed
1 WikiTextBot 2017-11-08
Renewable energy

Natural energy is the same thing as renewable energy. The terms are interchangeable.
Educate yourself before you spew bullshit thanks
1 ffbtaw 2017-11-08
You do realize where you are, right?
In the future if you are going to tell people off perhaps be on better footing. Natural energy is not a term used by any scientist because it is nonsensical. You are correct that uranium is non-renewable but based on current consumption it will last a very, very long time.
1 ffbtaw 2017-11-08
Uranium is a naturally occurring element in the Earth's crust. Do you mean renewable energy source? Because fission is certainly non-renewable.

1 withmorten 2017-11-08
It's not just about disasters, it's also about the nuclear "trash". There have been so many fuckups with that in Germany here for example, so that's absolutely not fearmongering, it's just a reality.
1 Imgur_Lurker 2017-11-08
1 withmorten 2017-11-08
I'd argue that China and Czechoslovakia have fucked up worse than we have concerning nuclear energy. :P
Well fact is Europe simply doesn't have that much space for nuclear waste. We don't just have deserts the size of countries here. Neither do most countries. France also had some very nice things happening with nuclear waste and its disposal.
I think in just about any other regard you guys fuck up way more than we do, though.

I think he agrees with you. He said the biggest problem is that no one wants it.
People are not properly educated about it and thus are apprehensive about allowing it in their areas. I'm not sure how you've extracted so much from that quote.
1 BannaHamHock 2017-11-08
Probably because Bill Nye himself contributes to the poor education and apprehension surrounding the topic? So to cite the fact that no one wants it as being the biggest problem, while contributing to and exacerbating that problem, is simply put: retarded.
1 anubgek 2017-11-08
Ah gotcha. Googled him and nuclear power and definitely see that.
That doesn't seem like the original comment's point but I'm down to shit on Nye now too
1 BannaHamHock 2017-11-08
I think the underlying intentions, educating the masses and getting people interested in science is a good thing for sure. I just can't stand Nye specifically because he allows his politics and bias to get in the way of making an objective argument, yet he acts like his science is 100% objective. I think that's a lot of people's problem with him when it gets down to it.
1 anubgek 2017-11-08

Also, his response to "how would you improve critical thinking in classrooms" was to have kids write a report on a fictional animal (the tree octopus). Sounds very douchebaggy.

u/sundialbill's is just a mash of words that is basically saying nothing.
1 wisty 2017-11-08
As I've said elsewhere, I love conversations about "critical thinking". Because it's a vague term that basically means "people being smart like me, not smart like people who are successful in school or life or anything, smart like a loser like me". It's like the bastard offspring of philosophy, postmodernism, and business comunications but even wankier and vaguer.
Given how few people ever remotely agree on any real definition of "critical thinking" you'd think that "critical thinking" advocates would spend a bit of time explaining what they mean before opening their mouths, assuming they're capable of critical thinking.

And it's especially important going forward because everything that can be done by rote will be automated in the near future. Critical thinking is something computers are not good at.

Just a lefty who also happens to disagree with SJWs.

No one hates proles more than those who claim to stand for them and claim to derive their authority from them. Champaign socialists are such a strange ball of contradictions.
1 Vipe777 2017-11-08
Wow you're one stupid person
1 pizzashill 2017-11-08
Was what I said true or false?
1 TrumpDeportForce1 2017-11-08
False. You are confusing education and intelligence with "a university degree". These don't necessarily go together.
1 pizzashill 2017-11-08
Republicans literally just elected a learning disabled clown and something like half of republican voters thought pizzagate was a real.
They aren't just unedcuated, they're straight up stupid people.
Not really sure why that's relevant, and this only really applies to older ones, not younger ones.
The GOP has been losing ground with educated voters every single election cycle.
1 TrumpDeportForce1 2017-11-08
Graduated from an Ivy League School in one of the most demanding business programmes in the country, multibillionaire, got bored, decided to run for President, actually won.
Yeah, you can disagree with his policies all you want, but denying that he is highly intelligent and capable is just delusional.
That's what I think about liberals. :) So throwing around words like that is kinda useless, as it goes both ways.
1 pizzashill 2017-11-08
That's great. I have him on video failing to do basic math and I have him going on infowars, I have him very clearly exposing the fact he's economically illiterate.
Trump winning uneducated voters does not mean Trump is educated.
There's a single quote that says everything that needs to be said about his intelligence level:
Right here, does this seem like someone that is actually ivy league intelligent?
That's great. Liberals didn't elect a rabid infowars conspiratard that speaks at a 3rd grade level, that was you.
Yes, if you aren't a retard by the age of 40 you have no brain!
1 TrumpDeportForce1 2017-11-08
Yes. What about this is wrong? The ball park of the GDP numbers is correct. Also, he is known for hyperbole. It's part of his game. :)
hahah that was fucking hilarious.
Built a multibillion dollar, world spanning company with an elaborate structure -> he's economically illiterate. Your delusions are coming through again. SAD.
people have different speech patterns for different situations. Trump won the election because of how he behaved, not in spite of it.
Of course it is. You have to be really stupid not to understand it. I mean, is the concept of Hollywood being a sexual abuse factory real? Do you really think that the Weinsteins of this world only fuck adults? hahahah
The tolerant left at it again, kek.
1 pizzashill 2017-11-08
Holy shit, now you've displayed YOU don't understand GDP. The problem isn't the numbers, it's the fact he doesn't comprehend why a developing country would have significantly higher GDP growth than a wealthy, developed country.
Let's say you make 100 thousand dollars a year and your co-worker makes 25 thousand dollars a year.
Your co-worker gets a 10% raise, and you get a 10% raise. Who gained more? If you want a more detailed explanation for why he's a retard, here you go:
http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox/2017/08/01/a_small_but_soul_crushing_illustration_of_donald_trump_s_utter_economic.html
Yes, my delusions, clearly it isn't that you have no clue that being rich does not = understanding economics, it's that I'm delusional.
Let's see what actual economists say:
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/370-economists-trump-traffics-in-magical-thinking-and-conspiracy-theories/article/2606179
Yes, because he's a dumb person that appeals to other dumb people.
To be clear here, you believe a conspiracy that says Hillary Clinton is running a Satanic pedo cult out of the basement of a pizza shop is based in reality?
No, conservatives aren't retarded. American right-wingers are retarded, American right-wingers are not conservatives, they're just far-right morons.
1 TrumpDeportForce1 2017-11-08
Yeah, I will link to infowars for proving my next point.
You don't understand that thw growth of the US economy under Obama's administration has been slow and not up to its full potential. We're now at over 3% for the last few quarters thanks to Trump.
He's not making a complicated point here. He's just comparing the numbers and wants us to do better. That's it.
As the people who said that we'd never have 3% economy growth and that Trump's goals were unrealistic? Kek. You believe in fake news too much. Your experts are worthless. They've been wrong on everything time and time again.
No, because he's a smart person who knows his base and how to win. You know, unlike some Democrats.
As I wrote, the concept of rich people having protective rings that allow them to live out their (illegal) sexual fantasies is a real thing. The satanic thing is a meme. The pizza shop thing is a 4chan meme.
1 pizzashill 2017-11-08
Yes, because clearly slate is even in the same solar system as info wars. Holy shit, you're a complete mongoloid.
LOL?
A) That's not the problem with Trump's economic illiteracy, notice how you didn't answer my question?
B) What in the actual fuck are you talking about? Point out a single policy Trump has passed that would somehow improve GDP growth.
C) You just exposed you don't know the difference between annual GDP growth and quarterly GDP growth.
http://fortune.com/2017/08/30/donald-trump-springfield-mo-3-gdp/
LMAO. Your economic illiteracy is not on them, you've confused 2 different types of growth:
http://fortune.com/2017/08/30/donald-trump-springfield-mo-3-gdp/
I'm done with you. You literally aren't intelligent enough to defend yourself and I feel bad.
1 TrumpDeportForce1 2017-11-08
http://dailycaller.com/2017/08/31/fact-check-trump-claims-gdp-never-hit-3-under-obama/
I am not done with you. I would like to help you educate yourself and recognize fake news! I feel bad for you, but at the same time hopeful that you will see the light some day!
1 pizzashill 2017-11-08
I can't do this anymore, you literally just do not have the intelligence level required.
I feel so bad for you man, the education system failed you.
The level of delusion/ignore is just straight up north Korea caliber.
1 TrumpDeportForce1 2017-11-08
I can still do this. You have the potential to see the truth. I believe in you!
I feel so bad for you man. The fake news have brainwashed you.
If we consider your comment above that intelligence equals university degrees that's wrong, I am afraid. Are you now pulling back this argument?
The level of delusion/ignorance is straight up North Korea caliber. But I still believe in you! :)
1 pizzashill 2017-11-08
M8, you literally can't grasp the difference between quarterly GDP growth and annual GDP growth and tried to claim Slate was on par with infowars.
I can not stress enough how misinformed as a person you are.
We're projected to hit about 2.4 this year.
1 TrumpDeportForce1 2017-11-08
You literally can't grasp that quarterly GDP is part of the annual GDP growth and that slate is a left-Wing Infowars.
I cannot stress enough how much the fake news has brainwashed you.
But I won't give up my hope for you and wish you to recognize the truth soon!
1 pizzashill 2017-11-08
Ok, so I'm going to try this one more time.
http://fortune.com/2017/08/30/donald-trump-springfield-mo-3-gdp/
Read this, and tell me exactly what it says.
1 TrumpDeportForce1 2017-11-08
I already informed you that this was misleading fake news. What the President said is true
http://dailycaller.com/2017/08/31/fact-check-trump-claims-gdp-never-hit-3-under-obama/
Annual growth includes quarterly growth. So if we hit multiple consequitive quarters with 3+%, we're doing much better under Trump.
https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/27/trump-economy-reaching-his-3-percent-goal-even-without-tax-reform.html
1 pizzashill 2017-11-08
No, it's not true. He tried to claim GDP growth never hit 3% under Obama, while talking about quarterly growth. This is outright false, it's irrefutably a false statement.
Your own article confirms what mine said:
The context in which Trump said this in is very clearly quarterly:
1
Trump has not done anything. He has not passed a single bill, he has literally done nothing. You are outright a retarded person if you think literally anything happening with the economy in this country is because of Donald Trump.
And one more time - we're projected to hit about 2.4% annual growth as of right now, and by the way, Trump promised 4%, not 3%.
http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-4-gdp-growth-promise-2017-1
1 TrumpDeportForce1 2017-11-08
1 pizzashill 2017-11-08
This is insane.
Incorrect.
You mean 2?
You realize I can just prove you wrong with one link, right?
https://www.statista.com/statistics/188185/percent-chance-from-preceding-period-in-real-gdp-in-the-us/
No, he has not dude. He has done nothing, period. And one more time: people that thing presidents have some control of the economy are just absurdly stupid:
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/why-neither-trump-nor-clinton-can-save-the-economy-2016-06-20
1 TrumpDeportForce1 2017-11-08
The President's statements are correct. Your pathetic attempts at misrepresenting them are not working. SAD.
You realize that your link is fake news, right? The economy is doing better than under any of the previous two failed administrations. No signs of winding down.
Trump has done a lot. This is an undeniable fact and the numbers speak for themselves.
1 pizzashill 2017-11-08
Wait, wait, wait, wait. How in the ever loving fuck is that link fake news? It's literally just quarterly growth charts, there's nothing fake about it, the same exact numbers can be found everywhere.
Is this your spin to avoid admitting you were proven wrong on this claim:
1
How's it feel to be in a literal personality cult, to the point where you have to just straight up deny reality to protect the illusion you've created?
1 TrumpDeportForce1 2017-11-08
How does it feel to be in a literal traitorous club to the point where you have to straight up deny reality to protect your liberal delusions? The fake news have really done a number on you. You can't even recognize simple facts. SAD.
We're doing what we can to red pill as many of you as we can. Don't worry.
1 pizzashill 2017-11-08
I mean, when someone has at most a 5th grade education and just calls every fact that proves them wrong "fake news" there isn't really anything that can be done to help them.
I hope you get the help you need one day, learning disabilities can be hard.
1 TrumpDeportForce1 2017-11-08
I wouldn't go into the education cock fight, if I were you. ;)
Also, you fake news have been consistently proven wrong and yet, you still deny reality for the sake of your delusions. SAD.
I hope you'll get the chance to see the truth and overcome the brainwashing.

Don't you understand?
Also, I am sure you understand that there is a difference between a gender studies degree and a Wharton/Harvard/MIT... degree.

Mostly false

Both the dumbest (Hawaii, Nevada) and the smartest (Massachusetts, Minnesota) states are currently Democrat. The middle range is a mixture of red and blue. With a larger cluster of red at the lower end (Alabama, Mississippi, Florida) just before the dead last two blue ones.
The current GOP states of Wisconsin and Kansas are 5th and 6th respectively.
As you can see, the correlation is pretty weak. Unlike another metric of measurement one might be inclined to use, which has only one real outlier (Maryland).
1 pizzashill 2017-11-08
Bro, this mental gymnastics you're trying to go through to avoid admitting the fact the GOP is hilariously uneducated compared to the democratic party isn't fooling anyone.
A better way to look at IQ would be to do it by county. There's a reason Trump did so well with the least educated counties in the country.
1 EarnestNoMeta 2017-11-08
are you saying retards cant go to college?
1 pizzashill 2017-11-08
You're a lot less likely to find a retard on a college campus than in some rural county.

OH BOY THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT CRITICAL THINKING HERE - https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/7bntfu/im_bill_nye_and_im_on_a_quest_to_end/dpjf9e0
