With regards to that first article, as a professional statistician, it's honestly because social scientists are shitty statisticians and refuse our help. In grad school we had lots of presentations of papers from other departments and stuff, and so often from Psychology and Sociology it was bad. Sooooooo bad. Just like -- like they googled a wikipedia page for statistical methods and only read half of the summary up top. I've read so many papers -- oh my goodness it's just terrible.

The worst part is, 75% of the time we don't even know what they did! They don't actually publish their methods! They'll put a line in of like, "We did a logistic regression with these parameters" and leave it at that, and dive right into this complex interpretation. They don't publish their methods, no one checks their methods, no one cares about their methods apparently. So it's all shit, and wrong. Yeah they tend to take a single stats course in their graduate programs, but it's more to get the lingo of what's going on and do basic shit on their own. It'd be like me trying to build a bridge after taking Physics 1 and learning F=MA.
