I'm not even sure what your point is. Yeah I'd rather sleep with a dakimakura of my waifu Renge-chan than with some random 3D slut but that doesn't mean I'm desperate, it's the opposite, it implies that I have standards.
Flying transatlantic or especially transpacific privately in a non tin-can, 1970s piece of shit can easily be a couple hundred thousand dollars each way.
Private jet charter runs between $2,000 and $10,000/hr. If you were to charter something like a Gulfstream 4 or 5 for a trip across the pond it would be in the neighborhood of $8,000/hr, considering a trip time of 8 hours (it's closer to 7, but I'm being generous), then it would be $64,000 each way. And that isn't in the 1970's POS that you were referring to, that is in one of the most luxurious planes on earth.
But your point is taken, if I was that rich I'd probably go ahead and fly first class instead for an extremely long flight like that, but for anything on the continent I'd fly myself.
I said if you’re not flying in a shitty tiny can. I occasionally book gulfstream 650 charters from London to various airports in Southern Africa, and it’s routinely $150-170k return. I guess I assumed transatlantic might be more expensive, especially to the West Coast, but now I think about it it’s a similar flight time.
Most people I know who fly long haul private regularly say long haul F is better. Also much better food, I’ve only ever been served shitty fruit platters and chips onboard.
Sorry, I must have misread. The food in first class is definitely good (depending on carrier), I've never gotten to fly charter long distance and most of my experience is in a corporate jet instead. Not great food.
This actually got me thinking about a trip with my family. If I booked first class tickets for all of us on a good carrier, we are looking at roughly $8500 each. So for me my wife and six kids it would be roughly $65,000 round trip to fly commercial. It would be double that to fly private on a nice jet, but it is more convenient.
If I ever get to a point in my life where this is a decision I have to make we can talk again.
Another thing worth keeping in mind is that as A380 demand slows down and 747s are pulled out of the market, long haul first class is shrinking - I was on Air France recently and their 777 first class cabin has just four seats now. So you might not even be able to fit everyone in.
Lufthansa First Class is my favourite although I haven’t been on any of the really good Arab airlines tbqh. They still serve real caviar though which is cool.

Agreed. What is this world coming to when royalty is forced to take public transportation and have to breathe the same air as the proletariat?
No rich, white woman should have to be tortured in this manner.

I mean, I know you're joking, but TV pastors made this exact argument defending their private planes.

TBH if an army of sans-culottes were to storm the Bay Area and start guillotining people indiscriminately I'd probably drive up there and join them.

If I was worth anywhere over $50 million, I'd never take any form of mass transit ever again. No idea why she's flying commercial, it's just dumb.

I know well about the changing market. Pretty soon most carriers are going to be little better than greyhound.
