my experiences with amit have been problematic, verging on predatory. i felt a lot of coercion in our interactions because of the age difference between them and i. i'm 19 & have been very clear about that from the beginning, but amit would constantly ask me out on "dates", talk about "netflix and chilling" and using very romantic & suggestive rhetoric on many mediums of communication. as a 19 year old woc, getting into leftist twitter, it was appealing to get to know popular personalities from leftist twitter, especially other south asians in DSA. at many times, i felt like amit was inappropriate in their insistence of hanging out with me and going on dates - it felt very odd knowing that amit, as someone in their thirties and married, is going on dates with teenages. i feel like amit preys on leftist woc, especially desi femme woc to date.
amit is masc-presenting, which affects the way we interact, considering i am a queer woman of color who is incredibly weary of men & masc-presenting individuals. this is not to invalidate amit's non binary identity, but as someone who definitely benefits from masc-presenting privilege, that inherently codes the way they interact with women and femmes, and the ensuing power dynamic. amit invited me over to hang out in LA once at their house and i definitely felt pressured to hook up with them seeing as this was not a public setting and saying "no" would be awkward as someone who couldn't simply leave the house. they were incredibly touchy with me and then asked me to watch tv on their bed with me - & from then on i felt incredibly uncomfortable with everything that came after (it's hard for me to talk about this in graphic detail, but let's just say that none of it was okay and i was very pressured into doing things i now highly regret).
you are asking a teenage leftist queer woc to go on "dates" with you and pressuring them into sex in your home - this is NOT OKAY. it is predatory behavior.
after this interaction, i felt many times compelled to tell amit straight-up that i felt incredibly uncomfortable with their actions and our interactions, but never had the courage to. they messaged me several times after that to get together/ hang out, and i responded cordially to some of them because i was still doubting in my head whether or not what occurred was normal or okay or not. but after thinking about it several times, i know it's not and it's unacceptable behavior.
amit definitely uses their twitter clout and rapid follower ascension to take advantage of leftist younger women of color on twitter.
So! Lana Del Raytheon and I have some shared background stuff (being vague to avoid recognition lol) and we followed each other upon discovering this. They DM'ed me pretty immediately, asking me questions about me and all that. It was cool for a second to have an account with so many followers talking to me, I had fewer than 100 followers at the time, but they quickly made me feel uncomfortable.
It was never anything explicit, but they brought up their sex/dating life very, very quickly. Told me I was pretty. Told me to hit me up if I was ever in LA.
I didn't have a lot of twitter friends at the time. It all felt very quick. I decided to chalk it up to friendliness but it was obvious that they were into me, and I was trying to make it clear that I wasn't into them.
They once stopped by the city I'm in and invited me to hang. It made me nervous. I said I was going to a friend's event, with my friends, and that it would be fun and they could come if they wanted. They declined and said they were tired and would be at this one bar if I wanted to stop by.
That's pretty much the extent of it. Until I made another friend who said she'd felt crept on, I just kinda viewed their behavior as overly friendly, and viewed them as bad at picking up social cues over text. But I felt sick to my stomach a lot of the time when they'd DM me, worried they were gonna take it to a place where I had to shut it down. They're a big account and they RT'ed me, got me some followers for a bit. Not all of our interactions had a bad vibe, they offered me professional advice at times. That was kind of cool but it didn't make up for the knot in my stomach.
And when a friend I was starting to talk to told me the same had happened to her, it made sense. They're just... they prey on smaller accounts and young leftist women. They're obsessed with clout in a way that's just really fucking corny and preteen, and I always got the impression that their leftist politics were almost entirely based on making memes and recycling other people's jokes to get attention. And it fucking sucks that a lot of truly smart and genuinely funny women are made to feel uncomfortable about the attentions of a highly-followed, uncreative, dishonest person obsessed with their own horniness.

Yeah, I usually just skim over the /r/ChapoTrapHouse or Gamergate drama, for example, but I don't really put in effort to try and understand it because it seems pretty boring.
