It's hilarious. People hate the media in this country- look at Weezer or Good Charloette who got famous just for bashing hollywood and the music industry.
So gamergate happens, the media overreacts and it blows up. Hell the same thing with the "alt-right" which didn't even exist before two years ago and only unified the edgiest parts of right wingers because the media branded anyone who disagreed with them as the enemy, as nazi sympathizers.
I'd say it was Anita Sarkeesian who learned how to bait literal children and monetize their outrage first. That's what prepared the fuel that let GG to become a thing seemingly overnight.
Can you imagine what would've happened if Zoe Quinn never would've fucked around and showed her disgusting nudes (don't check them out, they're really nasty). We never would've been lucky enough to get Trump.
