If someone stays in country for 30 years without making even the slightest attempt at addressing their immigration status then we truly are not importing their best and brightest.

You'd think over the course of 30 years you might familiarize yourself with the laws of the country you're squatting in and take steps to either rectify or plan for the inevitable.
