We spend less as a % of our GDP than we did 50 years ago, and a lot of that money is directed towards NATO and protecting the EU which many countries have yet to meet their 2% GDP contribution. Euro countries can spend quite a bit on their welfare states because we protect them.

Real estate is not the only form of property but that is a disturbing thing to hear.
The foundational pillar of capitalism is being able to earn money with your money. If you're allowed to give someone $10 today and expect $10+x in the future you are operating under capitalism. This is most commonly presented in loans relating to the means of production. Getting a loan to start up a business is the most definitively capitalist thing possible.
