It taps into racial tensions from an angle very seldom seen in Hollywood (the racism was neither accidental, nor hillbillies, nor uppity conservative elites), which challenged most of the viewers and really helped the psych-horror vibe feel fresh and effective.
Academy Awards have always been a fucking joke. Just because the Oscars have a slightly better track record than the Emmys and Grammys doesn't mean they're worth paying attention to unless you're a producer or a lead
I think the reason Logan got snubbed is because "The Academy" is anal when it comes to Scifi. Which is why only The Shape of Water got a best picture nod.
is logan even really sifi, it's like half like how Guardians of the Galaxy is mainly a action comedy just in a scifi setting ( Did they get snubbed to)
Logan was just a capeshit remake of Léon: The Professional
But seriously what's the term for scifi movies like Logan, Blade Runner and Judge Dread where they could be replicated in a western film no problem.
Generally Hollywood considers all dystopias sci fi even if the future angle is really minimal. I think even the book and film “The Road” are classified as sci fi even though it’s just set in a bleak post apocalypse.
Hrm yea that's a good word for the type of Film i'm thinking of.
the road
i'm still mad I wasted my time on that piece of shit 2 hour long navel gazing jerkoff session, If I wanted a "smart" movie about a Dad nothing will ever beat original OldBoy, just don't ever marathon the trilogy
If you can stomach it the book is way better. Also much more bleak and brutal. There’s a scene where they come upon an abandoned camp and find a spitroasted infant being cooked above a smoldering fire.
How was Logan good? The plot was pointless garbage that just linked together stupid looking action segments with terrible wire work, the clone thing was straight up retarded, all while looking like it was shot for a TV show on FX.
Of course it’s the SJW’s fault if Dunkirk doesn’t take its rightful place as best picture among such illustrious films as driving miss daisy right Ben Shapiro?
Logan was incredibly mediocre. The only one that surprises me is the lack of nominations for The Big Sick. I don't think it deserves best picture or anything like that but it seems almost universally liked, I'm surprised it only pulled a single nomination.

Imagine giving that much of a fuck what a bunch of old Jewish guys think about movies.

Can someone explain the obsession with Get Out? It is the most 7/10 movie I have ever watched.

It fosters suspense extremely well
It taps into racial tensions from an angle very seldom seen in Hollywood (the racism was neither accidental, nor hillbillies, nor uppity conservative elites), which challenged most of the viewers and really helped the psych-horror vibe feel fresh and effective.
It's thought-provoking for a thriller, like on par with a nice auteur anime or a freaky Korean flick. Like remember how the guy who actually ends up buying Chris is the only non-racist there, who's simply using the market to get what he wants? He's the only guy at the party who didn't say some heinous shit. Makes ya thank
Action sequences were creative and fun
It was not the expected result of a sketch comic's first venture into serious filmmaking
but it still had good jokes, well-placed too.
I know a guy who talks exactly like Logan, and that made it hilarious.

Yeah I’m on board the Get Out hype train. Seen it twice and its just great.
1 Chukril 2018-01-23
Yah I got all that. But best picture and beating out blade runner?
1 grungebot5000 2018-01-23
It was nominated for Best Picture? Damn!
Never saw the new Blade Runner, can't speak for it

These are complete trash overrated by redditeurs. If negareddit/circlebroke had a counterjerk about this I would join in a heartbeat.
1 grungebot5000 2018-01-23
pssh, someone's never seen Oldboy.
or any of the three good animes
1 serialflamingo 2018-01-23
What are the Three Good Animes?
1 grungebot5000 2018-01-23
Cowboy Bebop (includes Samurai Champloo and the good episodes of Green Jacket Lupin)
Shigurui: Death Frenzy
idk what the third one's called, I can't read Japanese, so let's say Nichijou. Nichijou's better anyway

It's about racial issues, and Hollywood loves that. Doesn't matter that it has the subtlety of a sledgehammer and the writing is lazy.

I liked Get Out but I agree, its overhyped on its racial commentary laurels.

Logan wasn't that good and WW deserved no Oscars other than costuming tbqhwyf

Capeshit in any form is usually Scifi tho
1 PM_ME_HAIRLESS_CATS 2018-01-23
Logan isn't worth any oscars. Good movie? Definitely. But its still capeshit.
Same goes for Wonder Woman.
1 Og_kalu 2018-01-23
It got nominated though

I Tonya was the most fun movie of the year. That should get best picture over most of the depressing hipster horseshit nominated
1 wazzupnerds 2018-01-23
I hope The Post wins best picture at least, I really enjoyed it.
1 dissident87 2018-01-23
It looks like a better movie to fold some laundry to than All The Money In The World at least
1 PM_ME_HAIRLESS_CATS 2018-01-23
BORING

1 westofthetracks 2018-01-23
logan is trash and so are the oscars
1 wazzupnerds 2018-01-23
You got one thing right at least
1 cruelandusual 2018-01-23
Oh, you're talking about that dismal comic book movie. Daniel Craig should've gotten a best supporting nomination for Logan Lucky.
1 geraldo42 2018-01-23

I just don't care about celeb drama unless someone gets run over or etc.
1 PM_ME_HAIRLESS_CATS 2018-01-23
The academy is fucking out of touch.
Still, I hope Three Billboards goes for broke
