Please let me share this r/drama. I got hit with something today, and it just shook me to the core. I don't post often, but today I need to.

I'm a strength coach, and I was training a liberal young man in my gym today.

He shared his irritation with his white friends, behind their backs, as we spoke between sets. He was so angry for the little bits of rudeness they've given him, so ready to tear them apart.

Then a black man came over to us, while my client rested for another set. Baggy clothes, unintelligent, aggressive and rude. He spoke to my client:

Ay whatchu doin' with those dumbbells? You here to fucking train or talk? I need them!

I kept it professional, kept it cool. My client couldn't even speak, so I had to do it for him. I told the man we have one set left.

Oh yeah? Well since you TALKIN' I'mma just TAKE these and use 'em!

So he takes our weights, and I go take them back from him later. Standard gym stuff.

Here's the part that got to me.

My client spent the rest of the session defending that fucking nigger- telling me why I shouldn't be upset with him.

He encouraged me to do a pull-up once, he's actually a really great guy! He's probably had it rough. Try to be understanding! Etc.

I just... Fuck. How did it get this damn bad? What can we do?

As a dedicated player of first-person shooter, military strategy video games since the age of 12, my respect and admiration for the people, who put their lives on the line for others, increased overtime. As a young boy listening to the WWII stories my grandfathers told me and then playing strategic military video games, I found myself standing in awe of all that they did. I even considered becoming a solider myself. Now, I am proud to say I have cousins who have chosen to serve the military before and after their college experiences. They are the very same cousins, who introduced and shared many of their first-person shooter video games with me when we were all growing up. Through all these experiences, I realized time and time again how much I ADMIRE and RESPECT the troops and first responders for who they are and what they do.
