Yeah we have all the necessary people. (((You))) will be the producer of course. I can act (top), we’ll need someone to bottom though. /u/masterlawlz can fluff.
Is it really worth it? I'm still at least 5 years from being able to buy one but, you know, I can at least get hard to the thought of buying one. What's the immersion like? Do you seriously block out all your surroundings or are they always there on the periphery?
At this point really good, much better than it was a few years ago. But it also depends on what you're viewing, and there's a good chance you'll develop a headache, disorientation, motion sickness, etc. if you use it too long and/or are susceptible to it.
Do you seriously block out all your surroundings or are they always there on the periphery?
All blocked out, it's pretty incredible, after a couple minutes in game I no longer have any idea which direction I'm facing IRL.
The VR itself is actually way cheaper than I had thought. $400 for the Rift, touch controllers and 2 sensors, although I think a third sensor($60) is absolutely necessary or else you get immersion broken if your back is to both sensors and they can't see your hands. The expensive bit is hardware. You're talking ~$1500 for a good rig with a 6g 1060 and I'm having a real hard time convincing myself to not get an 1080 ti that would push the rig cost up to $2400 so with added cables and mounting stuff I'd estimate for an optimal experience you're looking at $3k but $2k is doable on a budget.
The thing that sold me on it was trying it out at a friend's place they loaded up a shooter and at the pre-game firing range I realized I didn't have an aiming reticle, it's obvious when you think about it but it blew my mind at the moment to be using the iron sights to shoot targets. In one of the new archery games(in death) I was actually taking cover and peaking around corners with my actual body, step to the side, shoot an arrow like you would in real life(minus the draw weight of course) and then step back around the corner for cover.
Now that I hope you've already gotten off, my actual negatives. Movement is all of the games outside of your play area is kind of clunky. The best I've experienced is in that "in death" game a mentioned where you can either shoot a special arrow to teleport to it or throw the arrow in a kind of quick teleport, it's a problem across pretty much every game that doesn't have you confined to a room and the number 1 immersion breaker. That point is made worse if you have a small play area. If you're in a 1.5Mx1.5M grid you're going to only be able to do pivotal steps before having to teleport if you're in a 3Mx3M space you have a lot more flexibility and go do a good amount of things before using your teleport mechanic, I dream of 4+ sensors in a 5Mx5M spaces.
You can thank the assholes who "mine" cryptocurrency for that. Half the cost of his estimate is the graphics card alone. But even then you could put together a PC with an overpriced 1080ti ($1300) for less than $2k.
Demand for 1060s (or whatever you asshats are using rn) goes up, and price goes up. Now other consumers come along, and instead of getting a cheap 1060 they say fuck it and splurge on a 1080ti. Enough people do this and suddenly both are more expensive than they were.
We sure as fuck do. They're at about a $300 premium relative to to the cost curves of the rest of the cards, but if I could pickup a 80 ti for $900 I definitely would.
Well it's doable on a long term budget. You can build a good PC piece by piece and go with the $300 card over the $1200 card and get actual good milage on each successive purchase. Start with a case and power supply because they'll be good for a long damn time and won't really depreciate over time. Then MOBO + CPU + RAM + hard drive. once you have all these things you at least have a computer that works and has utility and just need to make the $300 graphics card jump which makes it a high end computer and then the $460 rift jump.
You absolutely do not need a $1500 computer and one can barely justify that price considering the extreme markup on GPUs right now. You can get a pre-built with an i7-7700 and a 1070 for $1,170 from Lenovo which is definitely adequate for today's VR. No, it's no 1080ti (and it's not really a superb deal compared to other pre-builts featured on bapcs), but those are the same price as the whole computer I just talked about.
I prefer building as well, but the 1070 alone is going to run you $850 (the cheapest in stock on Newegg). Add in the 7700 at $300 and you're already at $1,150, just $20 shy of the prebuilt and you haven't even seen RAM or a motherboard yet.
Hell, there are pretty good prebuilds at the 600-900 range too. I got a great deal on a CyberPower PC over Black Friday that works like a dream. In this current time of cryptocurrency sending graphics cards prices through the roof, prebuilds seem like the way to go.
I'm still at least 5 years from being able to buy one
Probably a good thing fam. I have a vive, and while the tech is cool and fun its still a long way from maturity. I definately wouldn't buy a current generation headset right now.
The porn is hit or miss. I found a suprisingly good one early by mistake. It was a POV sequence, but somehow it was from the woman's POV. My boner was confused, excited and intrigued at the same time.
But ever since, all the free stuff has been super shitty, quality wise.

Wow, that's 2 months worth of an upper middle class salary here. Plus we have huge import duties on luxury electronics.
