Maybe he was just being misleading (intentionally or not). His own father admits as much here.

Glenn Haab told HuffPost that a CNN producer told him Colton’s speech ― which consisted of an opening statement, three questions and closing remarks ― was “too long,” and that Colton would have to stick to asking one question.

The elder Haab said he told the producer that Colton wouldn’t read “one short question” without the option of first presenting the audience with “extremely relevant” background information.

I don't even hold them against them, it's what sudden celebrity does to people. A good anecdote about that is Charlie Hebdo, who used to be a tight knit community of old hippie anarchist leftists , and then ruined each other when fame and money came after the attacks.

Goodness in people is mostly weakness and lack of power at the end. It goes away at the second you become top dog (or even middle dog).
