I read a memoir of some dude who was a guard at Alcatraz in the 1950s. Apparently some gay sex (mostly consensual but sometimes otherwise) went down back then. But from all the evidence I've seen, this is really not something that happens in our century.
No, based on one single memoir from the '50s I conclude that it really was a thing back then. But in 2018 it's not like in old Hollywood movies where everyone in prison has to be either a bottom or a top.
