Americans always seem to be horrifically ignorant when it comes to anything political/foreign, so it stands to reason that Americans talking about foreign politics are probably even more wrong than usual.
Arguements about what is left and what is right are the best. The terms are incredibly arbitrary and have drifted so far from their original usage as to be nearly meaningless.
