Krautchan, a German imageboard very important to mid to late 2000's internet culture, is dead and overwhelmingly likely to be dead for good this time. RIP

Um, you forgot a period. Perhaps you'll have your first period next year.

KC's 'gone down' many times, but the domain has been seized, wich means that the domain owner has been doxed for the first time, and you can't access the website from IP anymore. Nobody knows if it's because the owner let the domain expire due to non-payment, the domain was deleted, or there's a legal dispute involved. The owner either stopped giving a shit or is in some sort of trouble.

Was it German language? I always got the impression that Germans tended to stay in their own part of the internet and didn't mix much with the rest of the world.

You guessed wrong asshat

kys

Thanks for the correction, bosche bro. I'll try to take better care of my personal safety.

there were foreign/english language users.

It was German language aside from /int/ and /trv/, but /int/ definitely influenced chan culture, and Germans are actually pretty active in US chan culture and elsewhere. It's hard to come across a German who doesn't speak at least working english.

Eh, apart from Scandinavians and Dutchies, Germans are probably the non-English speakers with the highest percentage in English speaking spaces.

How do you know so much about all these obscure internet boards? When I grow up I wanna be just like you tbh.

Krautchan isn't too obscure tbh. Pretty sure snally's favorite board is /int/ or /intl/ and they, like their namesake (international board) get around for obvious reasons. Not that I doubt snally's ability to conjure up plenty of truly mind-bendingly obscure stuff.

I never used krautchan but heard it mentioned fairly often here and there. RIP in Blutwurst, süßer Prinz.

Krautchan had the original /int/ board, where the first instances of sick bantz and shitty Polandball comics were seen. 4chan's /int/ was originally very alike, but has changed much in the past years.

Ahhh, good to know. I will now grieve for 72 hours instead of the customary 36 when an imageboard dies.

When I was a kid, I used to spend all of my time outdoors picking around at stuff and observing things. When my family got the internet, I did the same thing online. It just comes naturally from analyzing things and following leads, though it's a lot harder to find interesting stuff now that internet communication is mostly centralized. If you start with a subculture or topic that you're interested in, find a site that seems fairly old and is somehow still alive, click on the 'links' section, and follow link chains from archive.org, that should be a good way to learn more about things you're interested in. Archive.org even has a pretty helpful extension for looking at old webpages now. As for actually learning about the topics involved, idk. I guess it just comes with exposure.

Why not use it for science?

cant remember 100% but i think snally does use some of it in their masters thesis

so yeah, pretty much

Because science is for bitches, but drama is for Queen Bitches.

Phew, that's close. For a second there I thought you might have been a friendless dweeb who fapped to CP on imageboards.

I'm glad I'm not the only autistic that picks stuff up.

so it's probably a legal dispute over (likely far-right) content on the board

also cp

Well duh, thats redundant to state.

KC was not far right

Dang. Krautchan was huge back in the day. I remember a lot of shitposting about Krautchan posters being done. Heck, Spurdo Sparde comes from them.

Wasn't spurdo from an even more obscure Finnish board?

Nope.

Krautchan made spurdo and several other memes.

They did spurdo, polandball, and Serbian turbofolk (remove kebab) iirc.

Also gondola

:xxxDDDDDDDDD

I think they were at least the ones who popularized it. I do know that it was Finns behind the meme itself though.

Spurdo and gondola were both from ylilauta

Isn't spurdo from Yuliltitiailita or whatever the finnish chan is called?

I always heard it was Finns on Krautchan that made it big.

I'm probably not remembering it correctly but I think Spurdo became popular after it was used in a series of raids on Krautchan by a bunch of Finns from other image boards.

Let me tell you about something you don't care. Krautchan didn't make spurdo. Spurdo came from another board called YLI. Originally people from YLI started raiding KC's /int/ board and mass-spammed spurdo to the point where admins got butthurt and started banning people just for posting spurdo. Even after raiding stopped, posting spurdo on KC would get you permanently banned for "finnish shitposter," and they even tried rangebanning whole finland and russia but everyone was already infected with the spurdobug so they gave up. They did mainstream spurdo somewhat, but that's about it.

Krautchan's largest original memes are: That feel guy, polandball and certain variety of notable pepes.

I always care bb <3

That is fascinating, though.

RIP Krautchan, known for being the home of Polandball and not much else.

tbf, it did kickstart the mutt thing and tigerballs at the end of its life.

Being involved in internet culture before I began being involved in internet culture is sad.

y?

Because that stuff is insignificant to me.

Then why bring it up?

C U T T I N G

so did you get him, or he got you?

I cant really decide, so what do you think?

Long live ylilauta

Do you know how to speak the language? I want to expand my finnish cuisine folder but can't because yl doesn't allow english on the food board.

I used to post on int, so no

o

/ck/ has barely any readers. You should try /b/. Google translate works well enough

Ylil /int/ been dead for ever m8, everyone moved to Bronnen

Never forget FWG pham

Cyka blyat, señor!

it was kc tier

and it was on /r/drama

Thank you Snally. Can't believe you brought this up, I've been browsing KC /int/ for 6 fucking years. By far my favorite community of people on the internet. So far an alternative to KC is kind of fucked because the community is split between 8ch, ernstchan (smaller German imageboard), endchan, and bronnen.net

It's alright, we can have our discussions of the Ottoman Empire's steel output during ww1 on Drama, now!

Why worry?

Simply ebin

thats a shame

only went to that site like five times in my life but it looked like such a better place than the unfunny shitheap that is 4chan's /int/

Damn, they gave us tfw, and now they're dead.

Oh fug

God is great!

It's funny that there is a thread up on this despite people not being yet sure that this site is down forever

The last time the site was down was in September, since a German magazin reported on it and the Admin didn't want to deal with newfags. It was down for like 5 days. The site was again mentioned by another magazin, and now went down again likely for the same reasons.

What people say about the domain being seized, etc. ist just rumor. The admin was definitely not stupid enough to not pay the site's domain, it is in fact paid already for until 2021. The Admin was active on /b/ and the IRC just a few days prior. That the domain seems to have a new owner, could only seem as it.

How sad. Used to access a lot back in 2010~2013 I think. Still have a lot of old polandballs we used back there and have fond memories of some trends that we used to have. As the community was very small most of the users was know well enough to be recognised by just being online so we had like 6 Argentinians, 9 Brazilians, 15 Ukrainians and so on and we knew some by name (I think I still have the pics of one of the Argentinians girls called Yolanda or something that used to post). "Every Ukrainian is a good poster", Latvian potato jokes, sudaca/Slavic only threads, Finn raids, that one time where some feminists went to krautchan's irc and forced the admins to mass ban a bunch of people, threads where we would do polandball versions of album covers/movie posters... People where way more receptive and less toxic there too, even if it wouldn't be easy for someone who wasn't familiar with chan culture. Blutwurst, süßer Prinz.

It's confirmed today by dergeneral

good riddance honestly, the board went to absolute shit in the last 2-3 years culminating in rampant /pol/posting and shilposting within the last few months
