It's not insane. How do we decide what is ethical and what isn't if we don't explore such subjects. Just because you entertain an argument, doesn't mean that you support or advocate for what you're talking about. It started with a dude called Amos Yee who started having debates with youtube people arguing that age of consent laws should be eliminated and pedophilia should be legal. Destiny didn't feel other people made a very good arguments against him so he debated with him, taking the anti-pedo position, and IMO representing it fairly well such that i think at the end Amos Yee kind of accepted that kids might not able to give informed consent to sexual acts.
During this discussion the topic of CP naturally came up and Amos Yee presented the position that I described above or something similar, and Destiny said that sure in that case the circumstance sharing CP with a pedophile might not be that bad. See, this is where you are misrepresenting the argument. The goal, in regards to pedophiles, is not to "cure" them, it's first and foremost to reduce/stop children from being abused. You've shifted the argument to be about "helping" the pedos, when it's mostly about keeping kids from being sexually abused.
This is why Destiny suggested using older CP that has already been made, but only with the consent of the victim, because it would reduce the amount of newer CP being produced, thus reducing the number of children who are sexually abused. It started with a dude called Amos Yee who started having debates with youtube people arguing that age of consent laws should be eliminated and pedophilia should be legal. Destiny didn't feel other people made a very good arguments against him so he debated with him, taking the anti-pedo position, and IMO representing it fairly well such that i think at the end Amos Yee kind of accepted that kids might not able to give informed consent to sexual acts.
During this discussion the topic of CP naturally came up and Amos Yee presented the position that I described above or something similar, and Destiny said that sure in that case the circumstance sharing CP with a pedophile might not be that bad. A 30s clip was extraced from that which made it look like Destiny was saying that sharing any and all CP content is OK. He then had a shitton of conversations of people trying to explain that he was not actually talking distribution of CP overall, just under that very specific set of circumstances.

The result of a looong downward spiral of one of the "first" streamers, aka one of the people who decided to make streaming their primary occupation and full time job years ago.
Destiny used to be active in the Starcraft scene and decided to become a streamer when Starcraft 2 was big.
We know how Starcraft 2 basically ended up, from a bang to a whimper, and Destiny didn't adjust to that very well. His primary game suffered a massive loss in viewership and popularity, but he still kept at it and adjusted his streaming repertoire to other activities - like building PC's on stream for other people.
End of the day, he couldn't make ends meet with just that, so he started streaming League of Legends. Turns out he wasn't actually all that suitable to that shit. League brings out the worst in some people, and he was one of those susceptible people.
So he went back to streaming Starcraft 2 for a bit, then eventually became a gaming variety streamer, jumping from one game to another.
But that still didn't work for him it seems, because he somehow found himself in more and more drama with time, having a... unique personality and all.
So, eventually he somehow found himself as in the circle of "debate" streamers that started popping up in the past few years. It's mostly people who think they know what they're talking about when it comes to some subject that debate other people that know what they're talking about. But not with a constructive objective, rather it's a verbal fight and someone has to be the loser. Naturally, in those debates, both sides think the other lost and it's all fucking nutty.
Destiny also took a page from the books of drama streamers and vloggers, like Keemstar, who realized that you can be a total piece of shit, but shit will still somehow float(if enough people talk about it).
So Destiny started getting more provocative and edgier, to provoke a more intense response. His claims and debates started getting more and more nonsensical.
Which now got him in the crosshairs of the FBI.
Destiny isn't very smart, though he thinks he very much is.
