Starcraft tournament organizer allegedly owed money by community figure, intends to recoup the debt by fining other players; debtor says he doesn't owe anything since TO stole $12k from his fundraiser

Original post for the most eager. I try to be light on details but pls be gentle, it's not easy to put all of that in plaintext

This piece of nerd drama starts with the post above. Someone posts the link to BTTV's(the organizer) new rules, which state that any non-Korean player who lives in Korea and competes in BTTV's tournaments will be deducted 10% of their prize money, until a cap of $1,500 is met. This sum is, allegedly, how much Jake "NoRegreT" Umpleby owes to Graham "Rifkin" Rogers, owner of BTTV.

The thing is, Jake owns a, well, business? called Project Unity, which is basically a teamhouse in Korea for non-Koreans. Teamhouse is a house in which pro players train. There are multiple good reasons to have a teamhouse specifically in the rape capital of Starcraft but let's not get into that. The thing is, the project started as a joint effort between NoRegreT and BTTV who were acting as investors. Things didn't work out, guys parted ways, but there was equipment(computers and shit) left in the house which was bought by BTTV and which they never got back. The price of that equipment is the 1.5 grand allegedly owned, so Rifkin is going to recoup the loss by fining players who live and play in Project Unity. Collective punishment is good, right?

So, this gets posted, people get mad, Rifkin soon appears in the thread, tells the equipment story and states that this measure is a result of refusal to communicate by Jake. To put it simple, Jake blocked him. That all goes well, until Jake gets to make the statement.

So, what basically happened was Jake and Graham co-owned a Matcherino page(like kickstarter but for e-sports). At some point, Jake started a fundraiser for the teamhouse on that page, and Graham agreed to keep the page until a final goal was met. Their relationship got worse, so Graham shuts down the page which was $900 short of the final goal, pocketing the $12 000 raised by Jake and his friends. After which guys reasonably got mad and politely told him to fuck off, all of that supported by Jake's screenshots.

Graham has kept his silence ever since.

Not better twitch tv, how will i get extra emotes now?

i wish we had loli esports

I'd ask why e-sports organizers always seem to be such pathetic cunt human beings but I suppose it's obvious.

Rifkin is a notorious asshole, most organizers in SC2 scene are okay

lol how is SC2 even relevant still

it went from big thing to a niche game with tight-knit community, and now it's f2p, so it's not major anymore but it's definitely still a thing

I just see from a business point of view, DoTa and League can net you way more money than SC

I dont really play games anymore tho, so meh, Im probably not up to snuff with current gaming culture

we still have trashtalk in sc2 and none of the oversensitivity shit if that's what you mean by gaming culture

good.

the more scams that happen to """pro esports players""" the more they'll realize this shit isn't a real job and maybe we'll be rid of this garbage one day

Can we have some more TotalBiscuit drama before he dies of butthurt please?
