This, a million times. When you shadowban someone, they post for a bit, get bored when nobody responds, and leave. Or if they find out, they will make an insignificant post on SRC and get 3 upvotes. Neither of those sound like fun to me.
They program automoderator to remove posts from users they disagree with, so that the user doesn't know that they've been 'banned'. It's a practice usually found in more 'progressive' subs.
You aren't ever alerted when your posts are simply removed... it looks to you like they're still there. You can only tell by logging off and seeing that no comments appear.
