'bugman' is the contemporary struggling male version of 'I'm not like the other girls!' or 'I'm different to all those mundanes they can't understand my complexities!' It's supposed to sound like you've identified social cancer and that you're so above it, but in the end what you've done is identify a group of people who are shallow in different ways than you. And overall probably more successful and satisfied, because they don't have to create a term for people with different interests than theirs to define themselves off of and dictate what they can and can't like, do, etc..

Ok ok ok I just read your pasta. Those are some fair points. Will you concede to the fact that bugmen are a thing that exists in 21st century America. I live near an iPhone store, I could literally throw a rock and hit a three bugmans Prius’ with Bernie 16 bumper stickers, from my house.

Sure there are people who fit the stereotype, but categorizing them as such seems like a bitter attempt to identify as 'not like the other boys' and disparage people who seem happy and successful by assuming things that may or may not be true about their lives. It's a 'tear others down to make yourself feel better' situation. Not to mention that it's a buzzword that's going to get tired very soon just like the last few that were used in exactly the same way.

I rarely use the word myself, and it’s been around for a few years. I mean it’s no different than classifying rednecks, thugs, etc.. people in these categories aren’t usually the ones that get upset with the label. It’s just an easy way to label a group imo. Bugmen usually have jobs/wives/etc.. life as a bugman ain’t that bad. I see your point though,“cuck” just makes me cringe at this point.

The difference between words like 'bugman' and words like 'redneck' is that 'bugman' seems to be applied to any man who has broad city-dweller characteristics, i.e. is a part of mainstream culture. Instead of being used to alienate a fringe or culturally distinct group of people, like 'redneck' is, it seems to be used to cement the speaker's identity as part of a culturally distinct group and separate (and given how it's used, elevate) the speaker from mainstream culture. The people who use 'bugman' imply that they're not like those regular cattle who play videogames in their spare time and are bluepilled towards the harsh realities of the world, whereas the speaker is. It's really not so different from 'mundanes', 'NORPs', 'cattle', or even 'city-slickers'. It's just a way for the speaker to let everyone know that they're deeper and smarter than the unwashed masses, even though that 'depth' usually extends to things like dressing differently and frequenting different websites.

Yeah I see your point, but is a redneck not considered to be rural? We have bugmen in small town life even. I think the urban part is a bit specific, I’ve encountered bugmen in all sorts of areas and environments.

The point isn't the definition of 'redneck' or 'bugman', it's about what the speaker is trying to accomplish and what the context is when they use either term.

True, I guess my use of the term is in a broader sense and not meant to ‘lift me up’ or put me in some different better or ‘redpilled’ class. I have a few buddies who are bugmen, great dude tbh
