Actually useful? BIDI in general is mandatory for correct line-wrapping when mixing Arabic/Hebrew text with anything else. Consider wrapping "ABC DEF lkj ihg" ... wrapping it as "ABC DEF lkj \n ihg" would be wrong, thus storing in logical order is the only thing that makes sense.

Normally, BIDI is handled automatic when RTL characters are encountered. The difficulty is that sometimes there are characters (mostly symbols) used with both directions, so they have to "guess", and sometimes the default is wrong.

There are 4 kinds of controls: Embedded (which turned out to be buggy), Override (which is brute force), Isolate (which replaced Embedded), and Mark (which acts exactly like a letter, but without being drawn - useful for punctuation on the edge). Always use Mark if possible, else Isolate, else Override.

Marks act exactly like letters, except they aren't drawn, so they are really easy to reason about. Everything else has to worry about nesting.
