Europe needs to start a supplemental europe wide military... with a budget of maybe 1% of the budget of the EU. It would boost their anemic military spending and give them some unifying factors to help prevent it from falling apart. Over time the expectation would be that the european military would grow more powerful and the national miltitaries would dwindle, but it's a non-starter to just call on everyone to immediately abandon their national militaries and trust the EU one. I think it was dumb to unify the currency before there's any sort of unified spending program.
The soapboxing that goes on in /r/europe and the like any time one of their politicians makes a mildly belligerent statement is amazing. They go full /r/worldnews mode and everybody is an armchair geopolitical genius. At least it's one place where it's fair to say there are legitimate pro-Russian trolls, although I don't think any are actually under government pay.
The Russian shills are easily identifiable by their cookie cutter arguments and insane persistents. It's so easy for them to take lefty anti American imperialism and spin that into statements that coincidentally align with Russian interests.
