I was looking on a pro-pit site yesterday, and on the front page it had a chart that claimed on its front page that "pitbull type" dogs had among the lower death rates per population (compared to the other most lethal dogs). Then I take the time to comb though their sources... By "pitbull type" they meant a combo of all bulldogs. Looking at JUST American Pit Bull Terriers, they had amongst the highest. Woof, woof.

Bulldogs were bred for bull baiting and aggression just the same as pit bulls. They only diverged in the 1800s. Why aren't all bulldogs insane aggressive genetic superdogs?

IDK, maybe having the dogs actually fight each other to the death was better for natural selection.
