If you're a Christian who loves your brothers and sisters I think you care about every aspect of their life and if they're striving for godliness in that. That includes how people have sex.
Yeah /u/myynamejeffffff Christianity is all about loving your brothers and sisters, that message shines so bright in its condoning of slavery:
“Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the cruel.” (1 Peter 2:18)
Infanticide:
“Happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us – he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.” (Psalm 137:9)
And of course, genocide:
“This is what the Lord Almighty says... ‘Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’” (1 Samuel 15:3)
I think one of the main reasons Christianity was able to spread so widely was because it was a useful ideology for the rulers to indoctrinate their subjects with, it kept them content and usually unwilling to resist and rebel. The rulers did not generally give two shits about Christianity, and with good reason. Look back in history and try to find me one great ruler who was known as "the pious" - there's not one.
No, the reason christianity spread was because of the roman empire having a stranglehold on damn near the entirety of known Europe and then recalling all troops and bureaucrats when the barbarians invaded the western empire, leaving only priests. These priests became the only learned men in those parts, areas that were already largely christian.
They functioned as government figures for centuries, especially under the Merovingians who used their power to bribe and control the governance and localities like small baronies. After that came Pepin the Short and then Charlemagne who was a fanatic(since he was educated and raised entirely by monks and priests). He pretty much established feudalism as it would be known, uniting most of europe, this time with a heavy emphasis on Catholicism.
For several hundred years the only priests were Catholics who gave spiritual guidance to the massively religious masses until Martin Luther reformed the religion and revolutionized the massive apparatus of "the church" into the personal religion most non Catholics practice to this day.
The reason Christianity ruled was not to "control the people" but because it was practiced like Islam as a supremacy movement hellbent on spreading and creating morals that were unknown before it that appealed to nearly every culture it came across. Of course the uneducated masses were placated by tales from the bible, selectively chosen and such but to claim this is why it ruled supreme is ridiculous.
Buddhism is much the same with it's preaching about non material attachments. most emperors and rulers in places with Buddhism as the main religion, had harems of sex slaves, and vast amounts of riches.
Buddhism was spread by religious rulers though. Ashoka literally gave up war because of it, and he commanded the largest Empire India has ever seen. He sent off his oldest son and daughter to Sinhala to preach Buddhism.
If your religion thinks you're going to suffer for eternity for liking bussy maybe find a better one?
I agree, the problem is that a lot people get introduced to this stuff when they're kids and don't have much of a choice till they're older. I imagine that's where the pent up resentment comes from.
OP should leave Christianity itself. Jesus said nothing about homosexuality, that's all from Paul. He'd feel more at home as an Orthodox Jew or an Islamic fundamentalist.
Note that the latter artist was a well known bussy lover of his time. Most of his other paintings are of his favorite pieces of ass (renaissance era twinks).
So you would punish them by putting them on top of buildings??? You realize how much butt sex would happen at once? And that would be on you. All the gay men on top of buildings, having insane amounts of butt sex, allll the fucking time. Because YOU put them there. Pretty sure you're gay now...Ah ha!
/r/Christianity is unironically the worst religion-related subreddit. Imagine if SRDines believed in God and you’ve got a good idea of what the sub is like.
For truthful, and proper discussion on the topic of homosexuality, it is better to go to r/truechristian. At least there, they are honest about what the Bible says, and do not try to perform mental gymnastics to justify sin.
To be fair, it's warranted gatekeeping, like an Eldridge Cleaver fan on a feminist board, or a a person claiming that eggs are vegan because they aren't alive.
Ever consider for like 5 seconds that maybe the reason these contradictions exist is because a series of writings from mentally ill primitives don't form an ideologically cohesive whole?
Ever consider for like 5 seconds that maybe the reason these contradictions exist is because a series of writings from mentally ill primitives don't form an ideologically cohesive whole?
Also why would you follow christianity when more ancient and venerable religions like Hinduism with far older sacred texts exist?
So I'm curious, what's your opinion on the biblical apocrypha, you know the stuff that didn't make the cut. Also, do you know greek, latin, or aramaic? If not, how can you be sure you understand the emphasis and meaning you get from close readings of biblical texts are accurate?
There are plenty of linguistic concepts that don't translate 1:1 between languages, and if you're trying to pedantically follow the text like an ISIL fighter, you should probably be pretty damn sure you know what it says.

Sarcasm and flippant behavior represent contempt, which is the opposite of intellectual integrity. You seem like a real fool of a human.

There are people in that sub who claim to be gay but celibate so that they don't have to live a sinful lifestyle.

They're probably just really really ugly and making excuses.

It has to be damn near impossible to be an incel as a gay man.
1 Bankrotas 2018-05-16
Depends I guess. As far as my interactions with gay local people led me to know they don't like unfit bodies.

1 FuzzerPupper 2018-05-16
It's a well know fact that Christ was a rockin' twink. It's supported by many classical paintings of him, for example:
Velasquez - Christ Crucified
And by Caravaggio:
Christ at the column
The Crowning with thorns
Note that the latter artist was a well known bussy lover of his time. Most of his other paintings are of his favorite pieces of ass (renaissance era twinks).
