python drama from the requests guy

1  2018-05-20 by DiePunyAlts

Kenneth Reitz is a software developer and conference speaker for the Python programming language. He wrote the popular "requests" library, and is on the board of the Python Software Foundation.

He does do some tumblrina level stuff like blogging about his [mental illness](http://journal.kennethreitz.org/entry/on-mania), [getting sectioned](http://www.kennethreitz.org/essays/mentalhealtherror-an-exception-occurred), [slutting around more religions than necessary](http://journal.kennethreitz.org/entry/esoteric-interest), [writing poetry](http://journal.kennethreitz.org/entry/poetic-expressions), and possibly [thinking he's Jesus](https://medium.com/@kenneth_reitz/prophetic-insights-on-the-horizon-b8b3367fb88b). But then we all have our foibles and who still reads blogs in 2018 anyway?

Now he's working on a new piece of software called "pipenv" and it's not going as smoothly as it could. There were some normal discussions on /r/python:

Kenneth turned up to [complain so many people were talking to him](https://www.reddit.com/r/Python/comments/8jfmv8/kenneth_reitz_pipenv_the_future_of_python/dz3mybm) and to [whine about criticism and boast he's more popular than the competition](https://www.reddit.com/r/Python/comments/8jd6aq/why_is_pipenv_the_recommended_packaging_tool_by/dyzamlk).

Then the drama started. Kenneth took a break from blogging about [polyamorous relationships](http://journal.kennethreitz.org/entry/polyamory) to post this flaccid whingefest:

For some reason he wanted people to read it and [posted](https://www.reddit.com/r/Python/comments/8kdfd6/kenneth_reitz_a_letter_to_rpython_with_some_notes) to /r/python before more sensibly deleting the submission. But someone else reposted later for wider ridicule by the community:

While this was going on Kenneth kept retreating to his circle of orbiting yes-men on twitter for emotional support from the bad Reddit people:

Finally (for now), the stress of facing mild criticism has forced him to create a Python safe-space here where he can delete anyone who isn't nice and friendly:
