Thought it popped up out of nowhere because of digg faggotry a la voat.

It early predates both.

So i just got out of a meeting and there was this woman who was clearly in her late 20's to early 30's. Slim build probably around 5'8". And her titties were at her stomach. They weren't even big, just average size just in the wrong place. They looked like normal tits just that they protruded from her stomach. It vexed me for the entire meeting.

Well that's a little naive isn't it. New style reddit has quite a lot of design features that are advantageous to reddit corp's information collection and click count goals. Do you really think that oldreddit will be around for long, and even if it is it won't be maintained, parts of it will stop working and not be fixed. Oldreddit is just there to stop people leaving while they get used to new reddit. It won't last.
