There are two permanent leagues, leagues that do not go away. There is Standard Softcore and Standard Hardcore. Standard leagues are where all of your items go after a temporary league. Temp leagues have an interesting twist on them, something that changes the game play of standard. They last a few months, and your character goes to standard (or standard hardcore, if you survived in the temporary hardcore league.)
Something like 30% of the playerbase plays in standard. That's probably a higher estimate; at temporary league start, you could probably expect even fewer. Standard players are sometimes shunned because they don't play as much, usually. That's the gist of it.
TL;DR He plays a less popular "version" of the game.
I would be so ashamed of myself if I played 6-8 hours of videogames a day. I watched four episodes of Westworld in a row today and I feel like even for a Saturday I'm a worthless human.
Video Games are for children and the mentally challenged.
Like adults should still be allowed to have hobbies but they should have good ones like playing an instrument, working out, reading and writing German poetry, that sort of stuff. Meanwhile adults who still play vidya are a lost cause, really.
