I ate a one month ban from SRD from /u/TakeItToRCirclejerk for saying stuff like Americans have normalized obesity and that obesity is caused by overeating. Apparently that's 'low effort baiting.'
I'll say 40+? But it's totes okay because he's a olympic powerlifter, has a ton of lean mass, besides BMI is such a poor measure of health anyway, isn't it?
Uh ya, except it's not. Studies have shown it actually underestimates the obesity problem. Breaking BMI by lifting is not going to happen for the heavy majority of people.
That's obese. 25+ is overweight. Any kind of decent built you'll be at 25. Shit being 6'0 and 185 is overweight on BMI. That's a small built for almost any sport.
25+ is overweight. 30+ is obese. Why would you use 40 as the benchmark?
The difference between overweight and obese is 5, and you changed your benchmark by 10?
Having said that, there are a few athletes that aren't fat who have a BMI of 40+. They might have other issues from steroid usage, but a BMI wouldn't tell you that, so again a reminder that it's not a good stat. It is better if you use it with waist circumference to give you a better idea.
So, someone like Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, clearly an elite lifter and clearly not fat, had a bmi of 43
Here's my last SRD Comment, I was subsequently banned after that and this comment exchange in r/Drama for "obvious r/Drama brigade". I don't see how that's really applicable tho, since I was in an SRD thread, then responded to a ping in r/Drama about it, and am unaware of SRD having a rule disallowing people to respond to pings sent to them. Although to be clear, after getting banned from SRD, I made this top-level comment in the link r/Drama thread to see if they wanted to continue the conversation, in a sub I wasn;t then banned from.
Don't forget Fats on a Plane. In the official FAA airplane seatmate horribleness rankings, obese passengers fall somewhere between "screaming baby" and these guys.
Second-hand fat is passed along the familial line. The insidiousness of this health risk is that by the time you can decide to cut it away, you are probably a perpetuator of both first and second-hand forms of fat. The mind flab needs to go.
In states with socialized healthcare, an obese population sucks funding away from legitimate, unfortunate diseases/conditions. It's a well documented negative externality.
Not exactly the same as second hand smoking, but second hand effects exist in certain scenarios.
I mean, that's not true. Some people do have conditions that cause them to be extremely susceptible to obesity, and even the thread itself talks about steroids being a potential cause.
it's not even self control, it's control of their kid which ultimately is easy as fuck. Like, if you really want this kid to lose weight, you can just feed her nothing but oatmeal; she'll have to eat like 6 pounds of it to get fatter.
This nigga ain't completely wrong, just half wrong. Take it from a guy that is on a 25mg of prednisone / day right now: post-steroid hunger is a real thing, BUT humans aren't fucking stupid monkeys and can control their desire to eat.
Yeah jokes aside I feel really bad for her. I can just imagine the struggles she's going to experience, both physically and emotionally, and she's not in for a good time.
Most Americans are fat and something desperately needs to be done about it, but I'll bet non crytocurrency money that the reason this kid is fat is because her mom is a dependapotamos
I do, I'm against obesity, childhood obesity especially and the normalisation of it in the Western world. Also most fat children grow up to be fat teenagers and that's just an unattractive look.
I do, I'm against obesity, childhood obesity especially and the normalisation of it in the Western world. Also most fat children grow up to be fat teenagers and that's just an unattractive look.
Please tell me more about the health risks of being unattractive.
It's sort of cute that you seem to think there will be jobs or a decent standard of living for the Beetus Generation.
I mean, maybe. Maybe someone will start paying people to play - badly - vidyagames on a daily basis or I don't know, maybe start a new version of Roosevelt's WPP where the kids sit around and draw/paint anime versions of Diego Rivera murals featuring the mass lynchings of "Baby Boomers" as fat Googlezillionaires egg them on from the safety of their armored limosines.
1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 1:22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. 1:23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. 1:25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. 1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. 2:4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, 2:5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. 2:6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. 2:8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 2:9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. 2:10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
Do you just not like fat people? I mean, saying shit like that seems kind of silly, as smoking creates an addiction to a terrible substance that causes cancer and hampers breathing.

Any guesses as to what his BMI is?

I'll say 40+? But it's totes okay because he's a olympic powerlifter, has a ton of lean mass, besides BMI is such a poor measure of health anyway, isn't it?
1 carnivoreinyeg 2018-05-28
Well yes, BMI is an attrocious measure of health. Particularly with how many more people have added weight training to their regimen.

Unless you're a linebacker or a powerlifter, it really ain't, fatty.

Do you think someone like George St. Pierre is built like a linebacker or power lifter? He's pretty lean
1 0987654231 2018-05-28
Hitting a BMI of 30+ is actually really hard without being fat

Telling you why a stat you fetishize isn't being triggered, and neither is calling you out on the moving the goal posts fallacy.

The risks of obesity include joint issues, fat liver, diabetus, cancer, etc. etc. etc.
The risks of being unattractive can potentially include low-self esteem and being chronically underfucked.
Now fat teenagers are both unattractive and have those health risks. Why not have hot teenagers instead who also don't get diabetus before turning 20?
