Lifetime registries for other kinds of offenses may be a good idea. Once society knows what urges you're prone to, they will defend themselves which will necessarily reduce recidivism. I'm in a 16yo consent state, one of my teachers in HS was 23 and fingerbanged a 16yo. He still went to jail. Actually kinda felt bad for him because there were rumors spread around jail he was a kiddy fucker and got his ass beat to a pulp, was in ICU for days.

Not sure I find that law particularly sensible - it seems like the potential for power abuse is treated as power abuse? But whatever I didn't study all its aspects, maybe it's valid.
If that was consensual (even with the maximum amount of statutory-ness), the state committed a violent atrocity by throwing him in with a bunch of violent psychos - people should be completely aware of the fact that that's what it is, and not one bit less.

If however it was something really rapey and uncomfortable or he coerced her with whatever insitutional power he had (and no not talking about extra grades), then he probably did deserve to get molested in prison but not more than that - our brilliant organized governments should be able to break up prisoners in separated groups based on severity of crime/violence, to ensure that molesters only get molested in return by unsanctioned vigilante criminals and not much more than that;
and drug sellers should only get offered drugs by other prisoners so they too experience the temptation of starting to take drugs and possibly get health problems; drug users should be thrown in with other drug users so they can watch other dudes smoke pot and realize the immorality of what they'd done etc.

It's so tacky though, and there's no fun in it. Plus if you solicit stories the information you collect is going to be biased towards the type of people who are eager to share their stories, which likely isn't going to represent the scenario, population, etc. you're trying to cover.

Registries are great because they give the people on them something to prove. That's probably why sex offenses have such low recidivism rates. Everyone has a worst, most embarrassing, most socially-alienating thing they've ever done. If that was the first google result for your name, wouldn't you work on the character flaws that led to that behavior so you could prove to yourself and others that you'd changed?
Lifetime registries for other kinds of offenses may be a good idea. Once society knows what urges you're prone to, they will defend themselves which will necessarily reduce recidivism. They give people who've been rehabilitated the ability to distinguish themselves and should reduce society's obsession with everyone else being absolutely perfect at all times.
Then when society's guard's down, the frequency of lolcow bullshit goes up
