Most rape is just lazy, just careless, insensitive. Every time a man rolls over on his exhausted wife and insists on enjoying his conjugal rights he is raping her. It will never end up in a court of law.
If we are going to say trust us, believe us, if we do say that our accusation should stand as evidence, then we do have to reduce the tariff for rape.
On the one hand, she wants to criminalize "bad sex," which is stupid as fuck, and to allow the standard of evidence to be really low, which is also stupid as fuck. On the other hand, she's willing to concede that the punishment for those crimes shouldn't be high. Although...
She suggested that a fitting sentence for the offence might be ... an “r” tattoo on the rapist’s hand, arm or cheek.
Yeah... that sounds like a way worse punishment. I thought The Scarlet Letter was an example of what not to do.
The scarlet letter was the shittiest book I ever read. The dinosaurs 🦖 will burn every copy and implement the r tattoo punishment to rapists and every mayo male. Female mayos will have a D tattoo on their foreheads
Instead of thinking of rape as a spectacularly violent crime, and some rapes are, think about it as non consensual … that is bad sex. Sex where there is no communication, no tenderness, no mention of love.
“Well I’ll tell you what … You might want to believe that the penis is a lethal weapon and that all women live in fear of that lethal weapon, well that’s bullshit. It’s not true. We don’t live in terror of the penis … A man can’t kill you with his penis.
That’s bullshit. Trollx, twox, and gendercritical all agree a masculine (but not feminine!) penis is a literal chainsaw of death.
She's right and wrong. On one hand, society treats rape and other forms of sexual assault/sexual acts with non-consensual elements like something that's absolutely 100% traumatic and life-ruining regardless of what the situation was, and that expectation probably influences how people react to more murky-area types of rape. On the other hand, rape can be extremely traumatic and cause long-lasting effects on people. People who knowingly commit these acts should face the consequences, but imo our culture is treating 'survivors' the wrong way by telling them that they went through a trauma regardless of how they personally handled it or what it even was. It's like how for a while and to a large degree now women who had abortions were expected to be hysterical over it, even though women who have abortions react differently to them based upon the circumstances and who they are. Cultural expectations can play a big influence on how people in that culture react to things. Expecting women to feel traumatized and/or hysterical after any given non-consensual act can cause women to feel traumatized or feel guilty, broken, or like the aggressor didn't do anything wrong if their feelings don't align with cultural expectations. ime it seems like a lot of women who were raped or otherwise sexual assaulted are adamant that their experience shouldn't be called "rape" and that what they went through 'wasn't that bad' because they weren't destroyed by it as is expected, whereas other women crumble after being grabassed because that's what they're expected to do. And how somebody reacts to something like that depends largely on who they are and the situation they're in, but treating women like they're broken and should be broken after a non-consensual sexual experience is really not a good way to handle things.
TBH it makes no logical sense for the rape laws to be as harsh as they are compared to crimes of similar magnitude like assault and battery. It's a relic of days when virginity was highly valued and, by raping a virgin, you were in effect ruining her entire life's prospects. Obviously there should be punishment but it should be proportional to the acts committed. If there's signs of physical injury, assault charges should be piled on top. If there isn't any, the sentence really shouldn't be longer than 5-6 years. Murder and rape having similar sentences in most countries makes no fucking sense.
Well, gotta admit, she has a good point. I've got a nephew serving Life plus 180 years for a drunken hookup, and the girl didn't have so much as a bruise on her. She just "didn't remember" giving consent.
Was the girl 9? Or an 80-year-old nun? You know what you are saying makes no sense and that it seems as though another person would describe the circumstances much differently. I'd have more interest and empathy if you just straight out said your nephew made a mistake or was a bit of a sketch ball. That's the sentence a person who set a church full of people on fire gets.
The girl was in her 30's, so I guess I should have said "woman" instead of "girl". My nephew had prior arrests (for NON-violent marijuana related offenses), so this elevated his sentence to "habitual criminal" status.
They threw every charge they could think of at him, to get him to take a plea deal, but he refused. Now he wishes he'd have taken 4 years, instead of Life +130 years. But he didn't realize that a jury would convict him without any evidence.
No, I'm not a loon. But I'm a loon supporter! They are our local baseball team!
Meh, my skepticsm works like this. If I have a choice between believing a group of people, in concert, did something that seems to defy all reality OR I don't have all the information, I always make the second choice.
Meh. Since you weren't on the jury, your belief isn't all that important. But it should be enough to know that Yes, people do get over-sentenced for rape, including guys who are completely innocent. (Not saying my nephew was completely innocent. In this day and age, he should have known not to have sex with a drunk chick. And knowing that he was a "habitual offender", he should have taken the plea deal. With time served, he'd have been out next year. Instead, he'll die in prison. While the woman evades all responsibility, and gets to go on with her life.)
Yeah, rapists getting sentences that are too long isn't the lesson I'm getting from this little interaction. Your post history is crackers and you can go play out your little scenario with someone else.
“What the hell are you saying? Something that leaves no sign, no injury, no nothing is more damaging to a woman than seeing your best friend blown up by an IED is to a veteran?”
While I don't agree with her proposal, I do see the logic behind this.

Society wanted women to believe that rape destroyed them, she said. “We haven’t been destroyed, we’ve been bloody annoyed is what we’ve been.
Is the golden age of freeuse about to be upon us very soon? Where a forcible fucking in the street is just a mild annoyance?
