Holy shit I had no idea this ever happened. I may or may not know a disturbing amount of SA lore but somehow I missed this one. I do remember Boniface's fall from grace in Helldump when the Insulter-in-Chief was outed as a ghoulish loser living in a Florida trailer park.

I don't really post there any more but I still read the Forums from time to time. They've declined a lot from their heyday, many of the niche subs are practically dead, but they're still a really unique community. Even though it still has its heavily lefty bent it's one of the few places online where people on the left and right will still intermingle (like r/drama) because the shared sense of community outweighs the partisan divide in politics. It's hard to recommend an account because it feels more like wandering through a defunct Geocities webring than the beating heart of the Internet like it used to. I will say the ten bux I spent there almost fifteen years ago was probably the best money I ever spent. If you want to contribute to Lowtax's back surgery fund go for it—I'm guessing you'd probably get your money's worth out of it some way or another.

I know SA gets a bad rap on Reddit for the internet rivalry and SRS but it's really cooled its jets on being SJWy in the last few years.

I was back on Helldump when it started, and boniface was pretty much posting there since day one. It was a pretty great place at first, no rules barred place where you could make callout threads for other posters on the forums. Boniface was pretty witty, omnipresent, and had that rakish sense of ironic detachment that has always ultimately won Internet slap fights so he got pretty popular there. A lot of creeps and trainwreck power users from the forums were outed there and subsequently banned in the weekly Garbage Day threads. Anyone who posted in Helldump could be voted on to be banned on Garbage Day and since power users could never resist the urge to come defend themselves they'd subsequently get banned. Pretty soon, voting blocs were forming, and when someone like Boniface would show up to vote a bunch of other people would go with him, which in essence gave him the power to ban anyone from the Forums who came there to defend themselves or other Helldumpers he didn't like.

Eventually though they ran out of awful people from around the forums to call out so users in Helldump started eating themselves and voting on one another to get banned on Garbage Day. Boniface was the de facto leader of the most influential clique, and by now people on Helldump had started communicating with each other IRL (I was long gone from Helldump at this point but I love pointless Internet drama so this is all secondhand). Boniface got a reputation for being a total lech even though he was married at the time and started macking on all the Garbage Day babes. There was one in particular, can't remember her name anymore, but she drew comics on the forums or something and was pretty well known. Anyway they started some sort of Internet affair.

Eventually as all Internet cliques do drama blew up all over the forums and in all this boniface's doxxes, pictures, and information came out. I seem to recall one picture of this fifty-going-on-thirty sallow sad sack drinking wine in what looked like a disheveled dump of a trailer park. I think this is when he even got banned in a Garbage Day thread and was too poor to buy back his account even though he lived on the Forums, lol. One of his buddies had to buy back his account.

So by that point he'd pretty much already fallen from grace, but like a lot of fading Internet superstars he didn't know when to call it quits and just kinda malingerer. Helldump itself would eventually get rid of Garbage Day then eventually shut down because it had just become another unfunny toxic insular community. In all of this, at some point, Boniface tried to meet up with his No. 1 Helldump girl for a trailer park tryst but was too drunk and couldn't even get it up for her. Eventually someone on the Forums or maybe one of his Garbage Day victims contacted Boniface's wife and in order to save his marriage he agreed to quit the Forums.

Last I'd heard he'd written some piece for a site like Vice or Gawker, one of those "I was a teenage edgelord but I'm a good liberal now" mea culpas that were en vogue for awhile.

Anyway that was all from memory so I'm sure I got some stuff wrong but there you have it, all I can remember from some dude I hadn't thought about in more than a decade.

It's funny, I remember Helldump doing things constantly that are heresy on the Internet nowadays. Boniface wasn't witty, he was an edgelord who screamed faggot and kill yourself at pretty much everyone, and his partner in crime was some creep who obsessively doxxed EVERY user who got summoned to Helldump. The fact that every thread had dox should tell you much things have changed since then.

Yeah I dunno, I think for the first few months Helldump was pretty good. The fact that it would never fucking fly today is part of the charm of it all. Hell, even baphomet was rather short-lived and Helldump got away with way more.

I thing you'd agree that every meta subforum was FYAD Jr. in those days lol (except weird short-lived experiments like The Path), populated by rejects who couldn't hack it in FYAD. Do remember that in its inaugural days Helldump outed some pretty terrible forum superstars as pedos, diaperfurs, or attention whoring failures. I still hold that Boniface was funny at first but got lazy pretty quickly after the cliques started to form. I think everyone now just remembers Helldump for the dumpster fire it quickly became and not the fact that it did the Forums a bit of a public service driving away Gallowboob-esque characters like Putnam.

And only general forums acted like FYAD. Most of the subculture forums were pretty chill aside from a few fuckheads. Batman's Shameful Secret might be the only non-sperg comic book forum ever.

I dunno I never really got into watching Let's Plays, one of the many mint ideas that started on SA and Lowtax never thought to capitalize upon (still can't believe he let Yahtzee slip through his fingers too lol). I do remember the avatar though. And the extent of my DarkSydePhil knowledge is having watched his shameful jo session unwittingly live streamed to his audience.
