Lol no. "Whataboutism"is a ridiculous phrase that is one of the most powerful tools in the western propaganda toolbox imo. It controls public opinion so much. We are so quick to condemn other countries ruthlessly for the shit they do creating a tribal mentality. Simply pointing out the insane level of hypocrisy now has its own lame buzzword, "whataboutism". Its a valid point. We are given endless streams of anti-Russia sentiment and I really do believe it is used to mask the evils of our own government in the west and the things we do around the world.
The reason people point it out is because it makes me feel sick. A member of my own family died in the wars propagated by western lies. He gave his life to fight a fake war in Iraq to suit those in power and When you are so personally effected by these things, it gives you a different lens to view your own country. It's ridiculous that we are fed this stream of Russia/Arabs are disgusting and whites/western countries are liberal utopias. The world is fucked up and people like you who shout others down for pointing out the hypocrisy are as just to blame. By buying into the lies of our government and media, you allow these things to happen all around the world. By constantly wanting to paint others as the enemy instead of examining your own nations and own communities and what they do, you also allow our governments to continue trashing the world. This isn't to excuse Russia, but the world has been ruined and trashed by America and my own country - England. As an extension, white Europe is also to blame for systematically ruining the world for hundreds of years.
As far as I see it, you can either realise that both sides (West and East) are actually disgusting threats to the sanctity of the world like I have and hope that by being aware your own country is committing atrocities as well as others, you can all eventually hope to change it. But right now, all we do is paint someone else as the enemeny and the evil ones, and pretend we are good and virtuous and by doing that you just allow it to continue.
