To dramatically illustrate how radical centrist Belgians are about this stuff: both Netherlands and Belgium celebrate the local traditional holiday "Sinterklaas" (basically our version of Christmas), which features a mayo Catholic bishop character who is accompanied by a blackface "assistant" called "Black Pete".
This character is so utterly ingrained in our culture that pointing out that this is even a little or problematic weird has historically tended to trigger our fragile mayo sensibilities.
But in the last 10 years, some of the darker Swamp Germans have started making a real stink about the whole thing. Especially since some people there started making a career of importing American idpol into Yurop and copypasting the terminology.
This has escalated over time to a de facto Civil War, where anti-Black Pete protesters (who want the character nuked or highly modified) blocked the highway to the main parade and were sabotaged by counterprotesters (who don't want their tradition messed with by uppity black people).
While the Swamp Germans were tearing each other to pieces, Belgians just merrily continued blackfacing like they had always done before. The Dutchies descended into schizophrenia where one town would have Rainbow Petes, another town would have Sinterklaas accompanied by the fucking Minions from Despicable Me, and another hick town would have even more offensive black caricatures than before.
A couple of years into the worst Dutch drama, the organisers of the main Sinterklaas event in Belgium just decided "fuck that shit" and switched from full blackface to mayo-with-sootface. This solution actually makes sense, because the lore actually says the Black Pete guy is black because of climbing down chimneys. (how he then magically spawned thick red lips and curly Afro hair is still a mystery)
So as of <CurrentYear> Sinterklaas is still the main battleground for retarded Culture Wars in the Netherlands, while Belgium has pretty much moved on.
