If you paid attention to his early podcasts he always maintained:
The left can not be let into power . Not only because its evil but because its fractured as is garaunteed to fail.
Once the left inevitably fails the authoritarian right will rise. This is what he is really scared off. Because righties aren't just going to fall apart like socialists will.
His philosophy is radical centrism. He draws a lot on "balance", the order of the right and the chaos of the left. Yin and yang pretty much.
People think he is hardcore right wing because the cultural institutions have been leaning left for so long, but most of his positions are basically radical centrism with careful reformation.
He was always radical centrist. From the beginning on he said the real problem he has with the left is that they will try and fail to take over with some socialist bullshit. However what he is really scared of is an authoritarian right backlash afterwards when the socialists collapse out of their own fractured nature.
He always maintained Socialism would fall apart and then the real scary right wing would win.
Are you a daft person? Do you often find yourself asking “ what is thinking?
He quite openly names nazism and other fascist governments. He also cites the rise of nazism in Germany and the German people’s support for it as a response to decades of socialist unrest within Germany.

My problem with that thesis is not that it happened (it did), but that the fall of socialism doesn't necessarily has to be followed by a rise of the authoritarian right (anarchism and capitalism are alternatives) and that fascists may use other excuses to get to power (the most interesting one this days is the supposed decline of civilization because of third world immigration, that I'd argue it's more a problem for liberalism than socialism).
Also, there is more to the authoritarian right than fascism (the right word would be totalitarian for fascism; authoritarianism is more common with nationalists and some dictatorships). My issue is that he would be unable to get that bit because he is kind of reactionary himself.

Most of his fans are center-right "intellectuals" though.

First he pissed off the left, now he will embrace radical centrism. Bold move.

It'd be hilarious to see what is his idea of authoritarian right (also, his interepretation of how it comes to power it's ahistorical).
