OK so YouTube is a business, and they have a inherent drive to make money, fine. But you know what else a good business does? They make their terms very clear to their partners. By having "demonitzed" content on their platform, and by having the checkbox to allow ads or not on a channel, they're sending very mixed messages to their business partners. That's a shitty way to run a business. They need to be much more clear about policy.
You're talking about Google. A company that is defined by mixed messages and inconsistency. Oh ya we stopped developing that application and are removing it because... well who knows but check out these new emojiis!!!
Staying the course simply because "it's worked in the past" is a risky move in any market, but especially technology. Yahoo and AOL used to be titans but they couldn't get with the times. I would hope Google has the good sense to innovate.
Yes, I truly believe YouTube cares so much about this one channel not running ads that they delete all the videos. I'm sure it has nothing to do with a sitewide change that impacted many channels, including MIT. It's all about Blender Fuckwad.
Holy shit. I thought this would come but didn't think it was real.
Alright. Time for me to get back into journalism. I honestly got the perfect article to write about how on one hand Youtube actively demonetises videos its algorithms find offensive but actively removes videos that aren't offensive but choose to stay add free.
Wow.
I mean Im seriously blown away, this is some creepy shit. Think about it guys. Think about how sick this is.

How does one company continue to make such terrible decisions?
1 d-amazo 2018-06-20
because fucking retards keep joining them in droves in an attempt to make it big despite youtube not being a viable career
who cares if one channel gives them backlash when there's literal millions ready to take their place?
1 xcallmesunshine 2018-06-20
Idk thats kinda unfair- it has a monopoly on long form online video content. Its like saying everyone should stop making videos.

Because there's no viable competitor. They can get away with anything.

free market brah, just make a competitor if you hate it so much
1 Bustwe 2018-06-20
I myself don't really care, I'm saying that right now, there is no viable competitor.

Of course the market rate set by Google of how much anal reaming we have to take to use their services is, by definition, fair.
1 Fiat-Libertas 2018-06-20
pornhub or miscrosoft or amazon could easily make a viable competitor.
1 Bustwe 2018-06-20
You're right that Amazon could (Twitch). They probably have the biggest chance to draw YouTube's biggest crowd, kids.
1 Jimbo_B_Beterson 2018-06-20

Blender has to be one of the least offensive communities on the Internet. This is some Rain Man level autism from YouTube
1 siskonaut 2018-06-20
YouTube is providing a free service. If they can't even get ads out of this deal what's the point?

If you actually read the link it turned out to be because of a shitty UI and incompetent support department. https://www.blender.org/media-exposure/youtube-blocks-blender-videos-worldwide/
1 MemoirsofCrime 2018-06-20
They are just shilling and doing some PR stunts to save themselves from embarrassment.
1 pitterpatterwater 2018-06-20
This is literally the Blender Foundations description of what happened. Read the link you retard.
1 MemoirsofCrime 2018-06-20
It is the information they got from Youtube, and it sounds like a convoluted excuse to avoid a PR disaster.
1 pitterpatterwater 2018-06-20
They specifically describe stuff like having donations turned on and missing things because of not knowing about the other account.
1 Karma-Means-Nothing 2018-06-20
Yes because that's not something you can see instantly on the support end of things. 🙄

Yeah YouTube is pretty shitty on that end. They're being sketchy as fuck and need to be held accountable for that.
1 ineedmorealts 2018-06-20
Let us count the perfits google gets from running youtube
User tracking
Tons of free training data for their various AI projects
Tons of real user data to test various new compression algorithms with
They can tightly tie youtube to other google services to make more people use google services
1 CompetitiveLoiterer 2018-06-20
The point is I don't send them dead rats through the fucking mail if they don't let me watch videos ad-free.

YouTube is pretty awesome just for its own level of drama.
You know you're the master of drama when you cultivate your own shooters through demonetization of crazy vegan persian chick videos.

Just open every video with someone saying "nigger" and they'll be demonetized and not approved for advertising.
Problem solved.
