no he's definitely crazy, but people vastly overestimate his wealth & even his "genius". he doesn't know netsec beyond super vague concepts, he was never a real programmer or a hacker. he didn't really add anything of value to the computer industry. his main role that made him hundreds of millions of dollars was in creating a public, much overblown panic about computer viruses in a time where there were no other anti virus companies at all. but John is also incredibly bad at money. he's barely what i would call wealthy anymore - pretty much all of his fortune is long gone.

I called the hospital, and the information desk told me that they were allowed to tell me if a patient was there, but no more information than that.

I told her the name, spelled it, and she said there is no one listed in the Vidant system with his real name. Either he's in there under a pseudonym, or staff is hiding it, or he's not really here. Who knows. I don't even really care this much, although it might be fun to get to post-delirium crypto-"tips" from him. Or just egg him on in general.
