I would prefer this destroying of evidence as a stepping stone to trying to reform his life instead of him not fully destroying it and either caving in and going back or actually reforming his life completely (giving the benefit of the doubt here... hopefully), and having it derail his life after a few years of being fully clean.

I know inherently destroying evidence is sketchy at best, but I the person was genuinely trying to reform themselves. I wouldn't fault someone for helping someone get rid of cocaine if they were set on never doing cocaine again.

You're right, it's not a perfect example. Holding onto CP is much worse, there's a victim even if they aren't "directly" being touched no doubt. I still think that example is cut from the same cloth, though. Destroying CP erases it from his world, which is also a good thing. I think (hope) he immediately got counseling for it, which isn't as simple as just talking to a therapist. It's pretty rigorous.

I dont know mopen and from what I read I doubt he had any nefarious intent but I do think his actions were impulsive and borderline enabling. The only thing we truly know about the guy with cp was that he had it. He could be part of a pedophile ring and him actually producing cp is something that should have been considered. Reporting him was the right thing to do

I can agree that it was somewhat impulsive, hard to deny that. I personally think he was giving the guy the benefit of the doubt and hoping he would reform. Thinking back on it, it might have not been the best choice, but I don't think it was a heinous one. Just misguided. I'll meet you halfway. It was 4 years ago, could have been a young mind making a knee-jerk choice comment.
