Joystiq was doing one of those fluff pieces on the origins of stuido's names, and he told them that he won the rights to the name Gearbox from Gabe Newell with a hand of poker on a riverboat casino. It got picked up by other blogs and he retracted it pretty quickly after, calling it a "tall tale".

That said, I feel like something as ridiculous as that should have gotten some sort of verification from Valve before publishing, but video game blogs aren't exactly known for their fact-checking.

If one of my employees went off on a customer, let alone a pretty well known one and then also did it publicly, I'd have no choice but to fire them. This is why we have things like an employee code of conduct and a social media policy at my company.

It's not like this woman was fired for her opinions, or beliefs, or politics. It's pretty clear she was fired for trying to bully a semi-popular youtuber with close connections to that fan community, and she did it in front of the entire planet.
