One of the things I find challenging about this whole topic of debate is that radicals seem to have completely appropriated the LGBT movement. I am a long time lurker of reddit, just created this account to post as it's an area of interest to me and I find myself increasingly concerned that the only Trans voices that seem to be heard are those of ideological extremists. I am a transgender woman and I completely respect a lesbian woman's right to not want to date me. I am a strong supporter of autonomy and individual choice and I don't feel that someone choosing not to date me means that they are inherently prejudicial and discriminatory. Yes, we should attempt to end transphobia and yes we should attempt to push towards equality and the recognition and acceptance of the extended LGBT community, but so long as we continue to fiercely imply that anyone who doesn't want to sleep with us is a bigot, we will not be taken seriously. One of the things I find challenging about this whole topic of debate is that radicals seem to have completely appropriated the LGBT movement. I am a long time lurker of reddit, just created this account to post as it's an area of interest to me and I find myself increasingly concerned that the only Trans voices that seem to be heard are those of ideological extremists. I am a transgender woman and I completely respect a lesbian woman's right to not want to date me. I am a strong supporter of autonomy and individual choice and I don't feel that someone choosing not to date me means that they are inherently prejudicial and discriminatory. Yes, we should attempt to end transphobia and yes we should attempt to push towards equality and the recognition and acceptance of the extended LGBT community, but so long as we continue to fiercely imply that anyone who doesn't want to sleep with us is a bigot, we will not be taken seriously. It saddens me that as a movement, there are those amongst us who endanger what little support we have, by vilifying those who themselves are a part of the queer community and ultimately have nothing against us.
