A smartphone is not necessarily required to have friends in middle and high school, like this girl btw. But to have friends without you'll need a few active hobbies, and even then other kids are gonna think either you're a fuckin weirdo and maybe 3 people will look past it, or people are gonna think you're poor / have abusive parents.
If you suspect someone's parents are abusive because they don't own a smart phone, you really have your head so far up your own snobby ass it should be considered a disability.

That's not a parent thing or kid thing. Some people are just stupid with technology. My major is CS, I have a job with computers, and I didn't have my first smart phone until, like, 2 years ago. Having a smart phone unsurprisingly didn't really have any effect on skills that don't require instagramming overpriced make up brushes and laxative teas.

If I went drinking with my friends and family and I kept talking about conversations I had with people I don't even know on Reddit or how much karma I had they would get really annoyed and probably wouldn't want to go drinking again lol.
But then they'd have to actually drive their unwanted spawn to the park to run around and play like a normal child, and that's far too much effort for Nu-Boomers.
