Dinosaur of the Month

109  2018-08-10 by Cdace

I’m going to start introduce all of you to a new dinosaur 🦖 each month by giving a short introduction on our majestic overlords once a month starting with my favorite dinosaur 🦖, Spinosaurus!

Named for its seven-foot-long spines, Spinosaurus lived about a hundred million years ago during the Cretaceous period. It inhabited what is now North Africa’s Sahara region, which at the time featured a large river system. It is a Theropod and the largest known land Carnivore coming in at 39 ft tall. The first Spinosaurus fossil was discovered in 1912 in Egypt by a Kraut paleontologist makes Ernst Stromer.

Spinosaurus was well adapted for aquatic life. Its nostrils were further up on its snout than the nostrils of other dinosaurs. This would’ve allowed the animal to breathe even with most of its snout submerged. Its crocodile-like teeth were ideal for catching fish. The reptile’s dense bones—which resemble those of modern-day aquatic creatures such as the manatee—helped it float better. And its paddle-like webbed feet would’ve allowed the animal to swim. Even the dinosaur's sail—which likely stuck out of the water while Spinosaurus was swimming—helped the animal survive in its river home.

Scientists believe that Spinosaurus may have used its sail as a warning signal to intruders. The sight of the sail jutting out of the water would tell others to back off—unless they wanted a fight.

Gallimimus was fucking robbed.

Carnivores > Omnivores

good point, no soy dinosaurs.

Soyosaurus

Funny how it has been higher order mammals that seem to have won out.

But I already told you create plasma.

believing the mammals have won

FAKE NEWS

I've been censored! What is this coming to?

Lol. Suck on your mom's tit, milk-drinker.

The dinosaurs 🦖 return I hope

I infer from this that it will at least be several months before our overlords return to take their rightful place. Ugh. I guess I'll have to be patient until the second coming of dinos.

Only dinosaurs 🦖 know the day of their return, but I know it shall be soon

Spinosaurus is a badass and is way cooler than a t rex. They really get the short end of the stick in dino fandom

My brother 🦖 (when do I get my Spinosaurus emoji)

The "velociraptors" in JP were Utahraptors, you mongo.

Oh really? The raptors in JP were 20 ft long? Or were they around 10ft long like a Deinonychus you utter plebe

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utahraptor

Snout to tail, the largest Utahraptor was 20 feet long, gussy-lover. I know Crichton said they were Deinonychus, but he also wrote "Prey" and "Timeline." His judgment was... suspect.

http://jurassicpark.wikia.com/wiki/Utahraptor has some interesting discussion about Deinonychus/Velociraptor/Utahraptor.

It says right there in that link they unearthed it in the midst of the controversy. Crichton wasn't a prophet

Crichton wasn't a prophet.

Clearly you didn't read Congo.

Deinonychus used to be called Velociraptor antirrhopus, although the name was already considered outdated by the time the book was written. The author just thought it sounded cooler.

Also for making them so tiny. Dilophosaurus were quite big and were an apex predator in the Triassic, were like 25ft long or something

I got a spinosaurus tooth and a Ceratops toe bone on my desk. I'm looking for a nice piece of Amber to add to my collection, but the good ones sell out so fast... :(

Dinos > RINOS

True 🦖

I thought they were still debating size between this and Gigantosaurus because of incomplete fossils?

Fake News scientists don’t know shit! Spinosaurus > Gigantosaurus

MY favorite was the T-Rex. HE may not be the biggest any longer but he is still probably the heaviest land carnivore ever.

Some like them tall, some like them heavy. Fat girls need loving too

/r/TrollXChromosomes and /gendercritical are arguments against that.

They needed a different kind of love from a male role model... like a Spinosaurus or a father

Or a Stygimoloch or Pachycephalosaurus

Hell just give them a Utahraptor and call it a day

The only good thing to come out of my state.

Do the Mormons at least sell good bread like the Amish?

No it's all Wonder bread or hipster gluten free crap that costs $10 a loaf.

Ew

Named for its seven-foot-long spines

Does it have a seven-foot-long dick too?

Only for the faithful

How would denser bones let it swim better?

I’m a fake paleontologist not a fake biologist

It help for diving. Most semi aquatics animals (hypopotamuses, crocodiles work the same way).

Here is a book about the subject if you are interested

Makes sense. Thanks, will give it a read.

r/drama once again proves that it's userbase is unironically the best informed on reddit.

Eh, I just knew this because I went to a zoo who explained how despite being balls of fat, the hypopotamus could dive.

I went to a zoo

That requires leaving your basement, which puts you ahead of the protagonist of Thomas est amoureux who is the prototype of redditors.

I can't even argue that.

While that's not wrong, I can't help but feels that just having an userbase able to act like regular humans beings should not be enough to be the best informed on reddit.

Thomas est amoureux

government prostitution program brings Thomas into contact with real people

It's like looking into the future

I have seen more meaningful philosophy discourse here than nearly anywhere else on reddit, somehow... the points are just interspersed with bussy memes and retard calling

This is why I come to drama

damn i actually wanna read that now

I'm too retarded to read all of thiis without any pictures, put dino pics next time

rawr xD

pics

😲

Oh boy has it already been a month since your last dinopost? How time flies.

About 3 days which is too long I apologize 🦖🦖🦖

I thought this would be a post about our oldest dramanaut. I am kind of disappointed.

being disappointed by the coolest dinosaur 🦖

the largest known land Carnivore coming in at 39 ft tall

Spinosaurus was well adapted for aquatic life

Humans are the “smartest” land mammal

humans can swim

Humans are "well adapted for aquatic life".

Thank god for submarines

On that we can agree. Imagine if rebellious beasts could escape our domain merely be diving down a few hundred feet.

I like it. When you do this, could you post a picture of the creature?

I am a big fan of long neck boye! Do him next! 🦕🦕

I might depends on the sauropod 🦕

Best post on /r/drama in a while.

I do my best

only got popular thanks to Jurassic Park III, moar like Jurassic Park Pee for being fucking shit

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

T-Rex vs Spinosaurus was awesome tho

:(

beep beep lettuce

More like "beep beep I'm JEALOUS that someone else is stealing my emojiposting crown" amirite?

OMG HOW DARE YOU??? 😡😡😡

Dinosaurs are just hillbilly birds.

Humans are just bald monkeys worth less than a second of a dinosaurs time

Politicians evolved to have no spine, yet this creature existed 100m years ago? There truly is no God 😭

spinosaurus a shit

no u

Spinosaurus

lol normie

Suchomimus hipster

Nope. I am the meteor guy.

I’m going to start introduce all of you to a new dinosaur

But spinosaurus is one of the most well known "dinosaurs", if that's what you call complete falsehoods.

most well known

what is a T-Rex

one of the most well known

expecting me to read

Utahraptor next month?

Mayhaps or month after that one of those two

imagine jumbling bones together to create a “skeleton” of an animal that never existed. U are inventing animals. Smh

no u

3 stars for being about dinosaurs, -2 stars for not being Majungasaurus.
