Something similar happened to me irl, i wanted so sink into the floor. It was embarrassing as fuck.
I was in the line at the mall food court, i went to the asian place. This old dude in front me keep making comments about the asian cook. It was very obvious he was trying to be racist. Stuff like "hey you asian face, get over here. Get my food asian" or "i can't understand you, don't speak asian" and then he would laugh.
Funny thing is the cook looked like a decent guy who was being helpful and doing his job while the racist guy look like a caricature. He was old, missing teeth and smelled like cigarette smoke.
