Men not having offspring, while also avoiding the vice of sex outside marriage, wasn't a big deal. They could take it or leave it with relationships, whereas the woman absolutely needs it, unless she was part of the church.
History never gave men a need to break free from society's expectations because society never expected them to prioritize relationships or settling down. Men who grew old without a wife, but got laid, were just guys who liked sex. Loose women, however, were looked down on. So if she's not a whore, not a nun, not having sex, she's doing nothing with her life because she obviously isn't going to write a masterpiece or invent anything. She's damaged goods. A man that chose to not settle down and can't get laid still had job prospects, could still contribute. He didn't need a partner to be a part of society.
The MGTOW guys are choosing a life that goes against their perception of what society expects from them, which is generally wrong, and typically stems from insecurities. Nobody expects them to fuck a lot of women, but they watch a lot of TV, can't compare themselves to beefcake, and feel left out.
