The established business model of most running-shoe companies is to make a new 'model' of their shoes every year, occasionally introducing a new style/name, but usually they just make it version n+1. So you have these shoes that sell for $150 or whatever all year long and then in the late spring you can get them on clearance for like 50-60% of the price, because they have to make room for the new model, even though it's hardly any different than the old model, and sometimes functionally worse (e.g. they try to make it a teensy bit lighter by using material that wears down much faster). It's literally paying twice as much for a new color scheme most of the time.

It seems pretty retarded to get yourself locked into a 'new shoe every year' mindset when you end up having to throw away hundreds or thousands of the old model the next year for no good reason.
