There are several popular licenses used online to grant others permission to use your code. MIT and Apache are two of the most common ones, they pretty much just disclaim copyright. GPL is another popular one, it's more restrictive, it says that the code can't be packaged into closed source proprietary software.

You should mention BSD too, it's basically the same as MIT in terms of permissiveness.

I forgot. Personally I always used MIT just cus it seemed like that's what everyone else on github was using. I wish someone would steal something I wrote but I'm a shit programmer and I doubt that will ever be the case.
