I've been discovered as the mastermind behind an SRD funded conspiracy to bring down the most enlightened of gamers: MTG players

For anyone reading this, archive.is is probably the highest trafficked archiving site on reddit, and only receives few donations per week (and definitely not enough to run on donations alone). If you can, you can support the creator on Liberapay in order to make sure we have this service for the future.

I am a bot. (Info / Contact)

A lot of you stupid fuckwits are linking to individual threads, which is good because it's easier to spot the drama rather than being a lazy fuck like me and linking to comments sorted by controversial (if I even feel like doing that much). However, you fucking morons aren't using the ?context tag which requires all of us drama llamas to laboriously click on "parent" until it becomes apparent what the fuck is going on.

Let's use an example. Let's say you are convicted pedophile /u/CultOfCuck and you make this post linking to a specific thread on /r/pics.

So you click on the link, with a semi-chub, eagerly awaiting the SJW drama, and you see this post:

My son was born with a big set of balls, but we’re letting him decide if he wants to be a fax machine or a couch but he has to decide before he turns 3

Now, you're confused, because the /r/pics image says:

Your Inability to Grasp Science is NOT A Valid Argument Against It

So what does one thing have to do with another? Frantically, you click "Parent" a few times and you see the entire chain:

 >>>      Only 2 genders

  >> Nuh uh genders can be created by anyone out of thin air.

> My son was born with a big set of balls, but we’re letting him decide if he wants to be a fax machine or a couch but he has to decide before he turns 3

Now it makes a bit more sense (actually, not really).

This entire disaster could have been averted if the fucking retard /u/CultOfCuck were smart enough to use the context tag.

The context tag will still highlight the post in question in yellow, however it will also show you upthread for a certain number of posts.

If /u/CultOfCuck had linked to this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/7pdblv/argument_from_ignorance/dsggoyz/?context=2

Instead of this

https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/7pdblv/argument_from_ignorance/dsggoyz/

Then the context of the thread in question would have been apparent immediately by clicking through.

To use, click on Permalink to get the URL of the post in question, then add ?context=X where X is the number of upthread messages to display. X can be up to and including 10, I believe.

In conclusion, go fuck yourself.

MagicTCG's userbase is the closest you can get to being a shill without being paid, and I say that as someone who actually enjoys Arena.

How good is it? And how much does it cost?

As far as gameplay goes, it has issues handling big boardstates, and it really needs a select box, but it's otherwise a fine representation of MTG with added belts and whistles for the Heartstone crowd, so if you enjoy that, you'll like the game.

As far as features, OP is correct that friend list and ways to interact with other players outside actual matches are really needed, particularly if they want to incorporate full drafting. The counter argument is that it's a beta and volvo wizards will eventually fix it, but depending on how long it takes it could be a huge issue.

As far as the economy goes, and to answer your "how much does it cost?" question, it's "free". You can grind in-game currency+packs+wildcards for free, and then use those to enter events and buy packs. You can also buy the special currency, which, as OP mentioned, is required for certain events. This currency is technically available to FTP users, but only through contrived means.

Nah miss me with that freemium shit fam.

Call me when I can buy a game a MtG game slay the spire-like and I’ll be an happy man.

It requires way too much up front cost. A competitive MTG deck will run you 200-400$ with all the dual lands and mythic rares you’ll need. And thats just one deck. Drop 400$ on hearthstone and you can get a playset of every playable card for several expansions.

I figured they would be more generous with packs and gold since they are trying to challenge the blizzard juggernaut. Quite disappointed that they are really stingy with giving out freebies to get people started. No fucking way do I want to open dozens of packs just to get a playset of dual lands. Super boring lands that dont even do anything but are 100% necessary for any competitive deck. And thats before even thinking about mythics and rares. I think it will fail for this reason, I’m their target demographic and they soured me with this launch.

This sucks because I want to play MtG but don’t want to deal with magic tournaments or nerds.

I just recycle cardboard normally.
