I remember tv tropes, I used to find new shows and books by reading it. Never went on the forums though. I do remember them having rape tropes and then that getting taken down.

Another rule of thing is if a series you've never heard of appears in goddamn EVERY trope page, it's almost guaranteed to be Creative Writing 101 dogshit i.e. Whateley Universe.
