Why does Reddit believe everything in that stupid as hell xkcd comic? The comic has fuck all to do with politics. For an attempted "I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE" type webcomic, the guy writing this shallow drivel sure doesn't like the thinking style that science requires.
Redditors like to imagine themselves as the scientific-minded free-thinkers like Darwin, Copernicus, or even Galileo, but I guarantee you that if Reddit existed in Galileo's day, they'd be they'd be raging at him for daring to suggest that the Earth is not the center of the universe.
It sucks because centrists are the first to blame when one tribes side fails on something, especially elections. Look at how vitriolic the left is to new faces right now, still some holdover from the Bernie/Warren salt in 2016.
