The problem with children being moderators:

• Child Safety: Reddit is immediately exposing children to unmoderated content that isn't suited to the age rating of the subreddit.

• Support: Reddit offers virtually no support to moderators. The system seems to be based on the belief that moderators are volunteers who are able to consent to unfortunate content and attention. However, is this consent possible without their parents permission for a child?

• Exploitation: Child Slavery - unpaid work.

• Community Safety: The community does not realise that they are dealing with children. e.g. most grown ups would not tell a kid to "fuck off". However, telling a moderator to fuck off is normal reddit discourse. Even worse if there is a sexual element of "go fuck yourself" . The community is a victim and in danger as much as the child

I posting this to /r/drama because this is a serious issue and because I believe that many of the current moderators are vulnerable children who need protection and adult supervision.

This is also the beginning of my wider campaign to get reddit to only allow informed and consenting adults to take moderator positions. Feel privileged that I am giving you the opportunity to shape how we move forward with something so disgusting yet so easy to resolve.
